Lost power and engine light and StibiliTrax came on. Took into dealer who thought it was the solenoid on the #6. Changed that but still had loss of power. Now states the engine needs an upper rebuild and is recommending both sides. Sorry I'm not a mechanic but am trying to accurately describe it. Looking at costs of around $2800 plus parts. Maybe more if both sides are done.

The car started shaking and the speed slowed down considerably. I was able to get it to the dealer who, for $357, needed to take the oil pan off just to figure out the problem. One of the cylinders went and the exhaust valves were shot. They suggested the engine being replaced and priced new $7000 + taxes, rebuild $5000 + taxes, or used $3200 + taxes. Cant afford it. Just bought the car, a 2012, in 2015. I only had it a year and a half. Still owe on the loan for 3 and a half years. To find out others have had the SAME issue with their terrain. ugh.

I purchased a used 2012 GMC Terrain, and have had ongoing problems with the Stabiltrak light and check engine light come on. This started in 2015. I haven't even had the truck for 2 years yet. I have called GMC and currently have a case open. This is extremely frustrating. My vehicle is driving sluggish, it often will not accelerate pass 50 mph, the vehicle would often jerk....I've had my check engine light come on and had Onstar to run a manual diagnostic test and they receive back U0140 & U0100 codes back. The dealership is saying the issue is not appearing on their end. I informed them to push the Onstar button to have a diagnostic report ran and to drive the vehicle to test it. I'm beyond frustrated!!!!!!

So this engine is a "TURD" really. We have had nothing but problems with it and it always seems to be the same thing. O well it was the cam positioning sensor, o we need to run a oil consumption test, well there is oil on the oil plug it must have been loose. HA i say to that i believe they think we are all idiots. this engine should be recalled and replaced and or a newer vehicle to replace it. this is bull. why should my wife be afraid to drive this vehicle she shouldn't is the answer. i have always been a chevy person but come on GM you are dropping the ball on this. get your head out of you tail pipe i mean really.

This is our 2nd Terrain! We purchased a 2011 Terrain, and after one year our transmission blew and our dealership wanted to put a rebuilt transmission in a brand new car. So we purchased another Terrain. HUGE MISTAKE! 3 yrs later, and we have a rebuilt engine! When we purchased this 2012 Terrain we took it back several times complaining of the jerking in downshift below 30 miles an hour. Not one technician could "feel" it even though it was doing it as they were driving the vehicle.

We called GMC and put in a claim, they said there was nothing they could do. I knew it was just a matter of time before something happened! I just want to put the word out to people, not to buy this car! GMC doesn't care if your buying a piece of crap car, or they wouldn't put it on the road, AND, it's not safe! The dealership admitted that the car, being a 4 cylinder engine can not handle the size of the vehicle.

BUYERS BEWARE!!

Terrain SLT2 V6

  • Automatic transmission

After purchasing this new and owning for 6 months with around 8K on it, one day driving down the road, luckily a back road!, the stabilitrak warning and check engine light came on- and greatly reduced my speed. I am thankful I was on a back country road because had this happened on an interstate, I would probably have been rear-ended. I realize it's set to do this for safety purposes to avoid possible engine blow up but this is NOT a safe method at all.

Called the dealer advised me to call roadside assistance for towing due to warranty and safety- who tried to charge me extra because the dealer was over 40 miles away- needless to say I refused to pay a dime and good thing because the tow truck never even showed up! Next day called again and arranged to be towed to a closer dealer just to get it there to be fixed and they did arrive. Took two weeks to get my vehicle back over the holidays- was given a piece of crap rental car to drive and was told it was a bad fuel pump and was replaced. I've now owned it for 1 1/2 years, have 20K on it and, "knock on wood", have not had any other issues with it. It did upset me though that a brand new vehicle should NOT need a new fuel pump at 8K and I do not care nor trust that stabilitrak feature. As well, dealing with GM and Roadside assistance was a pure joke! We have always been GM customers but this really did make me scratch my head.
