Yukon

Driving down the road - engine light comes on and engine cuts power - I was very low on gas. Filled the tank. Engine back to full power but engine light still on. I have a 700 mile trip coming up and now I am nervous about driving. I will take it to a mechanic tomorrow and see what he says. Any suggestions about what this might be? Car is 2003 Yukon XL

While driving on the highway it loses power. You give it gas and nothing happens. Engine is still running but won't move when you give it gas. Had to turn off and wait. Started back up but 2 miles down the road did the same thing. Replaced the MAF and cleaned throttle body. Still doing this. This can't be safe and I see this is a common problem!

Yes, the very same thing happenened on this date in the middle of nowhere travelling @ 65mph. Had to walk 2 miles just to get a cell phone signal to call a tow operator. Not a fuel pump as it is making the normal start up noise when key is turned on. My vehicle never restarted. Sitting at an auto repair shop as I write this. This situation is DANGEROUS, especially trying to get off the highway in traffic w/ no power!

This issue has occurred numerous times. I've had a new throttle body installed, been through a couple of fuel pumps, and other costly repairs without actually "fixing" this problem. As others have described, we'll be driving along and all of a sudden without warning, reduced engine power occurs. This problem is dangerous and especially annoying that GM has not determined the actual cause or remedy.

it is very costly and inconvenient, it is also very unsafe when you are driving on hwy at speed of 65/70 and it loses power you can be run over because there is no warning

Yukon 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 160,000 miles

Why is it that no one knows how to fix this problem!! Driving at 75 mph on the highway and the engine just suddenly turns off - no power anything, Temperature doesn't seem to make a difference - hot or cold. I've managed to pop it into neutral and re-start and it will go for a few miles or 50. I've already replaced the fuel filter - no difference. Suggestions from my mechanic is to replace the fuel pump; have already checked the fuel pressure (it's right where it should be); or it could possibly be the security system. Please help before I put a lot more money into fixing this potentially deadly problem. Also - there is no sputtering or other sounds before it shuts down - it just does.

Yukon 4.8L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 110,800 miles

When I started the vehicle this morning and were taking a trip of 335 miles to Kansas and back, the box in the dash said engine power reduced. It would not go faster than an idle, push foot feed to floor and nothing but an idle. Had to take Yukon back home and take our other vehicle. Also this Yukon the RPM gauge quit working a few months ago and the electrical gauge also quit before that. No fuses are out.

Yukon XL Denali 6.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 153,000 miles

Currently My vehicle Goes into " Reduce Engine Power " Mode and completely loses power on the road to an engine idle. Not only is this an inconvenience but this is absolutely a safety hazard. I was almost hit from behind on a fast moving road because there was no where to pull over. I was able to take off after letting the car sit. On the second occasion when this happened I lost complete power to the motor and had no powered steering. This nearly caused an accident around a turn due to loss of powered steering. If this is not a MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE than i don't know what is.... The GMC problem code is Pd 1518 and says that this is "Throttle Actuator Control Module Serial Data Malfunction " There seems to be no fix for this issue. Research online shows that thousands of people with these GM vehicles encounter the same issue with their vehicles.

The other Major issue with my 2003 Yukon Denali is the drive tran. The torque converter is working improperly and my transmission is slipping. I understand if I were the only one with this issue or maybe eve a handfull of others than this may not a big deal. BUT due to the ability of the online web, THOUSANDS of people have reported slipping transmissions or completely faulty transmissions. For the money you spend on a luxury AMERICAN MADE SUV you would expect the vehicle to gie you some sence of security and dependability. After owning a 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD as well and dealing with the numerous front end issues and recalls I dont think that I would ever buy American made again...

If i could please have some sort of a response to this and some kind of help i would greatly appreciate it. Thank so much!

I was driving last night and my Yukon cut off with no warning. This wasn't the first time. When it cuts off like this, I can get it stopped, put it in park, turn it off and it will restart immediately. This kind of break down is scary whether you are in the country and trying to get off a two-lane road or on the highway running at speed.

ever since i have had this car it has been nothing but a problem for me. I have small chirley that require transportation to and from school, and tis car feels unsafe, and unreliable. it cuts off without any given notice which makes me unsafe heck god forbid someone rear-end the car. and when in the flow of freeway traffic, and it stops while at the speed of 65-70 mph this could prove disastrous for my family. something needs to be done about this safety hazard, before we are posting fatalities instead of general complaints. people should get in touch with the manufacture, then their local consumer affairs office, and finally local assembly person www.congress.org

Yukon LX

  • 33,000 miles

THE CAR QUITS RUNNING WITH NO WARNING, ON THE INTERSTATE DRIVING 70 MPH OR DRIVING 30 MPH. AFTER SITTING FOR SEVERAL MINUTES THE CAR WILL CRANK AND RUN FOR SEVERAL MILES AND QUIT AGAIN. TECHNICIANS CAN FIND NO PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. THIS CAN BE A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AS WELL AS BEING A PAIN IN THE ASS. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TO AMERICAN MADE AUTOS, ESPECIALLY AS MUCH AS WE PAY FOR THEM. ANYONE HAVING ANY SIMILAR PROBLEMS, PLEASE SUBMIT A COMPLAINT.
