About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
We had our brand new 2005 Yukon slt for 1 week and it had approximately 226 miles on it, when the "stabilitrak" electronic stability control system caused the vehicle to lock up. I was driving approximately 45 mph on my normal route, a fairly straight route, when the vehicle made a loud grinding noise, became impossible to maneuver, and totally locked up. Had I been driving faster, I am confident that we could have rolled or been in an awful accident. The "service stability" light was on. The dealership was unable to pinpoint the cause of malfunction. General Motors concluded that the yaw sensor had not been calibrated, causing it to enable the stabilitrak program without reason or warning. We did not feel comfortable with that explanation from General Motors. The dealership agreed and got us another brand new Yukon. We would like someone to call us regarding this serious issue.
