Accord EX-L 2.4L I4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles

The 2007 4 cylinder transmission complaints was not as bad as previous years, especially the 6 cylinder versions. The recall that was supposed to update the computer from crunching the transmission into gear was way too late. That coupled with the change of recommend transmission fluid, only available as a Honda recipe, left me with a clunk when putting into reverse.

I changed the transmission fluid myself, as well as an undocumented transmission fluid filter. I'm an electrical engineer who can change a water pump, a thermostat, even find a short circuit causing fuses to blow and a stickler for details .Frankly, I hate cars. Why, because they fail because of design and as they squeeze so may components into a tight area, requiring special tools to disassemble, and causes the dealerships hold you hostage. I digress.

After 8 years I really can't complain about this vehicle. Rotors wear out fast if you don't replace with heavy duty rotors. The vibration issues are directly related to the electrical starvation when all accessories are on. I have yet to replace a weak battery. Motor mounts drying out contribute to the vibration. The open exposure of the condenser to the front open road is a poor design that allows a rock to destroy the AC system. Trunk is easily bent and susceptible to leaks if something impedes the proper closing of the trunk. Only 60K after 8 years.

I just don't like that I have to pay more attention to issues like airbags before Honda alerts me. Beware, electronics only last 10 years, tops. Think about your steering on your next car purchase.

Accord EX 4 Cy

  • Automatic transmission
  • 91,000 miles

I took my 2007 Honda Accord in a week ago with an unusual noise coming what i thought was from the transmission. The dealer and I took it for a ride and after he heard it they decided it was from the transmission. I like to do minor work to my cars and I change the fluids myself ( synthetic oil every 5000 miles and transmission fluid every 30,000 miles) They told me that since I had no records with them on the fluid changes they would not cover and problems. The total to replace the transmission $3,000. The service department even said to me the fluid looks good with no sediment. Does anyone have any suggestions for me.
