The contact owns a 2009 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the vehicle had been taken for an alignment. While performing the alignment, the parking brake activated independently. After the service was completed, the contact disengaged the parking brake and noticed that the vehicle seemed a bit more difficult than normal to steer. The contact pulled over, stopped, and became aware that the rear rotors were overheated and turning red. The contact stated that the parking brake was still activated even though the instrument panel had indicated that the parking brake was disengaged. The contact turned off the vehicle until the vehicle had cooled off and then returned home with the vehicle. Once the contact was home and the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed that the parking brake was still engaged even after disengaging the parking brake. The contact stated that the brakes were still overheated. The contact also noticed that the brake pads had started to fracture from the overheating. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 128,000.

Vehicle has been consuming oil since purchased with 9,500 miles. Oil consumption has contributed to fouled spark plugs. Fouled spark plugs triggered "cylinder #3 misfire" code and extremely poor performance at highway speeds. Two different occasions the car experienced different cylinder misfire issues. Honda dealer performed engine computer software updates on two different occasions that did not remedy the oil consumption issue. No warning lights to indicate that the engine was 3 quarts low on oil. If the consumer is not aware that the vehicle is using oil, there is potential for the engine to seize causing costly repairs or to lose power in a dangerous situation. Dealer is now performing Honda oil consumption test. According to Honda, consuming 1 quart of oil in 1,000 miles is normal and acceptable. This burned oil is being released into the environment as evidenced by the black carbon on the tail pipes. It is hard to believe that a leading car manufacturer would deem oil consumption in a brand new vehicle as normal or acceptable. This is the first vehicle out of 12 that I have ever owned that consumed oil. Even vehicles with over 200,000 miles did not consume oil. I purchased a Honda so that I did not have to worry about reliability or break downs for many years. Now I have to worry with checking the oil every week as to not get low or run out. Same vehicle has also had premature rear brake pad wear and had to be replaced at 60,000 miles. Complaint has been filed with american Honda. Class action lawsuits have been filed against Honda over the premature rear brake pad wear and the oil consumption issues.

Never with any lease I have had in the past 18 years, did I ever have to replace brakes. The cars were returned within the 36,000 mile allowance. They were not Honda leases, however, this was my first Honda. Prior leases were Cadillac and Nissan vehicles.

The second time the consumer returned to the dealer, the problem had worsened. The brake pads and both rear calipers had to be replaced. Since the first incident I have had a clicking noise coming from the ac on the right side vent on my 2009 Honda Accord. It is October of 2011 and the dealer has now replaced the same blower motor 3 times. It alleviates the issue, only for it to return. The dealer has no other explanation. Also, I have replaced 2 door actuator motors. This car was bought in December of 2009 and it is October of 2011. I will not buy another Honda due to having issues occur repeatedly and so soon after a new purchase. Obviously brakes have to be fixed again and again.

2009 Honda Accord. Consumer writes to express discontent related to brake repairs and unwanted ac service at local dealer the consumer stated there was a strange smell coming from the ac. The dealer stated they added a deodorizer in the ac. The consumer was informed the smell would disappear in a few days, but it had not. It only seemed to get worse. The dealer informed the consumer, she was not the first person to complain, but it was because of mold. The consumer requested the ac to be flushed to get rid of the odor as she never requested it to begin with.
