Accord Limited 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 47,224 miles

I mentioned the Transmission as Automatic but it may be CVT also as I am not expert of transmission. It has P, R, N, D, D3 & L.

The car is in Saudi Arabia and purchased from Saudi Agency. In March-2018 one day I started to drive the car with "D" but when accelerating, the gear became neutral after little movement of the car and engine speed goes more than 6000 but the car is not forwarding. Then after some time suddenly experienced a jerk and shifted to some gear and car was running.

This type of incident occurred frequently during starting time of the car. I drive the car in this way about a week. Then one day the car not even started to move. I kept the car left 1 day without drive (no way). Next day Tried to drive manually with "L" and it was working. I went to mechanic and they changed the Gear oil and Filter. After that it became OK for 1 day. We drive about 100 KM without problem. Mechanic told us to change the gear oil again after 1 week.

After that the problem again came with more one day after. Now again shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear is not working properly. Sometimes became neutral, sometimes suddenly shifted to 2nd gear with a more bigger jerk than before and after that no problem, car can be drive with maximum speed.

When driving in the city this condition came multiple times. Sometimes fear shifted with jerk and then the transmission indication in the dashboard changed fro "D" to flashing "03" but car is running.

I shall change the oil after 2/3 days and will check the result.

Accord EX-L 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 46,500 miles

The Honda Accord EX-L V6 automatic transmission that I have often selects the wrong gear while trying to accelerate. Granted, it's an automatic transmission using the software to select the "appropriate" gear during driving. However, the transmission tend to be "dumb" most of the time.

For instance, occasionally while driving on low speed varying from 20-30 mph and I want to accelerate as fast as possible (accelerator pedal pushed down to the floor), the transmission would choose 3rd gear instead of 2nd gear. This causes slow acceleration on 3rd gear at 30 mph onwards.

Honda should have a transmission logic when the accelerator is pressed all the way, the car's transmission should select the lowest possible gear to maximize acceleration. I mean, it's the logical thing to do right? People driving a manual transmission should understand this even better.
