CR-V LX

  • Automatic transmission
  • 55,000 miles

I own a 2018 Honda CRV with 57,000 miles. I have brought it to the dealer for every required maintenance. I noticed lately when driving that the steering wheel was sticking in place. There were no warning indicators. It felt especially dangerous on the highway, because I had to apply force even on slight curves to turn and stay in the lane. I thought, perhaps the power steering fluid was low or gummy. So, when we finally arrived at our destination, I brought it to the dealership and was told no -- actually there is no longer any power steering fluid. The electronic steering rack is failing. Worse - the sticking will continue to get worse until it fails altogether, and the power steering will stop working. There was no time frame for when any of these things might occur - like a time bomb. The repair cost is $4446.33 AND it is only guaranteed for one year!!! I asked if there is a recall for this and the dealership said no but they could refer me to sales if I wanted to trade it in for a new car! Why would I buy another one -- so it can fail again?

Update from Jan 7, 2024: I contacted Jeff Conrad back in November, the head of Customer Service and have received no response.

CR-V LX 2.4L I4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

2018 CR-V Steering wheel is sticky when turns, sometime there are strange sound associated with the turn. Steering wheel does not automatically return after turn, have to apply a little force to help it return back. One mechanic suggested to replace the electric power assistant system which might cost 1-1.5k.

There was a recall on this model year on the steering system but my car was not in it. The recall really should include more vehicles.
