Civic EX-L 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 25,000 miles

The fake leather surfaces in the car that the driver is in contact with started to "bubble" and break down. In particular the console and the driver's door panel. This started to happen sometime in the 4th year of ownership. A relative who works with automotive interiors said he had heard about this happening in Honda's. He indicated the issue was due to moisturizers as he understood it.

The console cover got so bad it really had to be replaced. (I still have the old one.) I was not able to just order replacement material - you have to order a new console and door panel. I understand the door panel but the console lid should be something you can buy. I did find and order an after market genuine leather cover for the console. They started making them for that very reason... The door panel is still as it was - bubbled but not torn.
