Civic LX-P Coupe 2.0L I4

  • CVT transmission
  • 216,000 miles

The software on the base model head unit is glitchy. A few thousand miles after I first got the car, there was an instance where the whole system froze and reset itself (including the time) while I was driving. Sometimes it would randomly disconnect my Bluetooth audio but still keep the phone connected, other times it wouldn't recognize my phone at all even when trying to connect manually and I would have to turn the car off and then back on again for it to start working again. I never bothered taking it to the dealership to have it looked at but it was annoying to say the least.

I will join the 30+ others who have posted about this ... Honda's new Bluetooth system is non-functional. We have a 2013 Civic and the Bluetooth is fine. Not amazing, but fine. Our 2016 Civic's Bluetooth just doesn't work and, sadly, the company is even worse. As others have said, phones lose connection for no good reason, and sometimes even the USB connection doesn't work. Further, the microphone is appallingly bad - we used to dictate text messages and use voice commands all the time in our older Civic, but this car is completely incapable of handling any dictation. (I drive 50 miles one way to work in DC traffic, so this is probably the second-most important feature to me, aside from not breaking down on the side of the road.)

We have been to the dealer at least four times. They claim there are "update issues" with the phone manufacturers. Baloney. We have iPhones - hardly an obscure brand - and I have hooked my phone to at least six different rental cars from various manufacturers with no problems.

I suggested that Honda tell me what phone model DOESN'T have "update issues" and I would switch phones. They could not suggest one because, as this board makes clear, NO phones are working correctly.

The system is simply flawed, and they will not take responsibility for it. Given how many states now (rightly) required hands-free devices, that is appalling. This is my fourth Honda, and it will be my last.

Civic EX-T 1.5L

I purchased my Honda Civic on few days ago.. so far 85 miles and since the bluetooth connectivity was paired and took the car out of the dealer the problems begun. A representative from the dealership walked me through connecting my phone to my car via bluetooth next day , however a couple of miles later the connection was lost. I went through the process again with setting up my bluetooth, however, again it disconnected. When I called Honda support to report the problem,. The representative told me that their was an issue with my phone which was preventing me from successfully connecting to my car via bluetooth "software update". I can see that my car is paired with my phone and my phone is listed as one of the devices on the bluetooth list for my car but they do not stay connected. I have NEVER had this problem before with any other vehicle that I have paired my phone with and I found it a little insulting that the representative blamed me and my phone for the issue,my last car was a Honda Accord and I did not expect to issues with this vehicle only minutes after making the purchase.

Bought the Civic 2016 end of July. Audio or Phone won't work through Bluetooth or the USB. Whenever this happens, the Audio power is "off" and would never be able to turn it back on. Touch becomes unresponsive. Reported the issue to American Honda and they suggested me to do a Factory Data reset. Issue persists even after that. Very annoying.

Civic Touring

  • Automatic transmission
  • 200 miles

My touring Civic sucks and Honda as a company is even worse. The problem started at about 200 miles and today I have just over 10,000 miles. I took it back originally within the first few months of buying the car and then let it wait because I didn't want to deal with it but getting close to the 12000 miles/12 month bumper to bumper coming up, I decided to take action. I have had my vehicle back to Honda 3-4 times in the past. Honda willingness to correct the problem only goes as far as replacing the display unit; however, it did not fix the problem. I even started a claim to try to resolve but to no avail. It is still not fixed. I was told it was a software update. My response, okay, do the update. Their response, it is not available it could be two days, two weeks, two years or 10 years. WOW... SERIOUSLY!!!! This was the response from the local dealer and Honda HQ/Claim agent. I asked why a recall wasn't done to correct the problem and I was told it is not a safety issue. I'd have to disagree. I know I almost got into an accident messing with the display screen instead of watching the road. Hum, maybe their will have to be a serious injury or fatality before Honda decides to acknowledge there is an issue, which they are clearly aware. When my husband picked up the vehicle, after Honda HQ said "deal with it", the service dept at our local dealer said they are constantly having the civic and Ridgeline coming back for service for the same issue. I will NEVER ever purchase another Honda again. And, my Civic will be gone within the next week and, hopefully, the 3-4 visits in the past month will not be on the vehicles history report when I trade it in.

Have Samsung S4 Active with Android 5.01(Lollipop) and Android Auto. Had constant Bluetooth disconnects, every 10 minutes both with bluetooth alone and plugged in with android auto. Had called customer support and tried their fix with no success. Finally found a possible solution (first day with 3 hours driving and no disconnects). Go to "Settings" then Application manager and under application manager select the ALL category. Find Bluetooth and press icon. Look for button "CLEAR DATA" data and press it. Reboot phone. That was it. We'll see if that fixes it for good but if I can even get 1 day out of it and have to clear the data again I'll be satisfied. It would always disconnect when I'm about to arrive at a destination or at some crucial turn when using the GPS, that's very annoying. Sorry Apple users, this is would only work for Android users.

Once again I am having problems connecting to Apple Car Play. This is the third time in a year that the software was upgraded and still Honda can't get it right. Honda told me to call Apple and complain to them because they are tired of this repeating issue and thought they could kick the can down the road a little further. NEVER BUY HONDA AGAIN. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. It's not just the issue with the car that bad enough but how they treat you when they give up themselves is what INFURIATES me. Honda has mulitple times ignored me hoping the car would fix itself. UNF***KING BELIEVABLE!! SHAME ON YOU HONDA. YOU WILL REAP WHAT YOU SOW.

My gripe...I don't think I should have a problem with a brand new car that is supposed to be such a reliable good car. If you're going to use new technology, well it's not that new, but anyways, you should make sure that it works. After reading complaints on here, I see that I'm not alone. I purposely chose a newer car so that I could use the bluetooth technology. I hope you(Honda) are working on this. I see lots of the same complaints. I am really angry.

Civic EX-L 1.6L

I started having problems with the iphone and the Civic. It wouldn’t connect Bluetooth, which worked previously, and the wired connection would sometimes work and other times say “device not compatible with Car Play” This is Apple’s car software and I have an Apple iPhone 6S Plus. Can’t get much more compatible.

After speaking with one of their tech guys and resetting the car and re-pairing the phone the result is the same. Bluetooth doesn't work at all. Wired in will work sometimes, then for ten minutes or so, then disconnect. Trying to use the phone as a GPS is useless, you will never get to your destination before it disconnects. I spoke with a Renee at customer service. Her answer is they don't guarantee that the car and the phone will work together........Got that? Really? Then it turns out that the problem is that Apple updated their phone software and Honda did nothing about updating theirs when problems arose. They were very aware of the problems all along but said nothing about them. You don't see anything posted up here about the problems. So I ask you, what kind of idiot would pair up with a phone company to deliver services for your product, in this case a Civic and then not do a damn thing to update your software when the phone company does and makes you incompatible? What kind of group of idiots would not have had this worked out ahead of time with Apple to manage updates properly? Honda should have stuck to making lawn mowers. They wouldn't have this type of problems. This type of electronics and software seems to be far beyond their limited capabilities.

I wrote an email to the CEO and copied the VP of service without any response. How irresponsible is that? Stay away from this car company. They seem to be very sneaky and shady. They won't admit to problems and then when they are nailed won't confront them

apple car play doesn't always initalize

I love this Civic. However I do not like the fact that the Apple Car Play at times tends to be buggy and either not start up, occasionally freeze, or disconnect on its on as well as the Bluetooth when not using Car Play. Wondering if Apple and Honda have a resolution for this. I have not tried Android Auto yet to see if that has the same issues.

After I had the car reprogrammed by the dealer, the engine surging was gone but then the radio started losing Bluetooth connection with my phone. My phone still showed that it was paired with the radio & the radio had my phone listed but apparently lost its brains for Bluetooth. I went online & read several different forums & what I found was doing a factory reset on the radio would correct it. I did the factory reset on the radio & had to re-pair my phone with the car. Thought it was kind of odd but it was a "whatever" moment for me & went on about my business.

Some annoying thing. Bluetooth connectivity crash, had to reboot (after 2 weeks only) When we want to call, we now have to press twice, to get off that annoying message of what we want. Should be able to disable. Rear camera gets dirty easily compare to the 2013 model that I had. Not enough covered as before. By looking a previous complaints and repetitive malfunction of Bluetooth system, it looks like this problem will never really go away. This is the 7th time mine has failed to work properly in the last 8 months. We have to imagine this problem will continue to frustrate us for years. Honda doesn't really care when they already have our money. They are so cocky and convinced their reputation is so solid that they can afford to lose a few thousand customers than to properly repair ALL their defective vehicles (products). This is the sad truth.

FYI Honda...."You will reap (less profits) what you have sowed (failed your customers)" Just a simple law of business. Word of mouth has blessed you in the past and word of mouth will curse you in the future if you continue to bite the hands that feed you.
