A/C not working

I had to wait almost two weeks as the dealer was busy. I originally called another Honda dealer and asked about an A/C recall. They said to bring my car in and they’d have to search my VIN in their system for an A/C condenser/ compressor recall. There’s a $139 diagnostic fee. I asked how much if not covered by recall? The lady quoted me over $1,000 at least if not more (depending what was broken), plus labour and taxes…

I called my local Honda dealership. They told me there is no recall at all. Honda Canada instead offered a 10yr extended warranty. I didn’t have to bring my car in. They searched my VIN over the phone and within minutes came back and said your compressor is covered until 2028 and condenser until 2026. No diagnostic fee. No labour costs. No charge. They replaced everything broken for $0. Thankfully, I researched on Reddit and called around.

2 weeks old 2018 Civic A/C was suddenly blowing hot air on the driver area and a little bit warm air on the passenger area and on the 3rd week nothing but hot air was coming out. Dealership fix for the first time, and then after 2 weeks hot air was coming out again, and the dealership service fixed it again. They do a diagnosis and refill freon for the 2nd time and again after 2 weeks, it's back to blowing hot air again.

Anyone have this experience?

Bought the car in the fall, but I never used the AC until the following spring. Turned it on for the first time and... nothing. Brought it to Honda and they replaced the condenser coil. Problem solved. Probably never worked to begin with.

Bought 2018 Civic EX new, and owned it for 1 year and 10 months with just under 19k miles, and the AC stops working? Turns out this is a known defect, and depending on what boards you read, folks are getting screwed on the cost of repairs. My car is still under the 3yr/36k warranty, but other owners of 2016 to 2018 models have reported failures just above the initial warranty period. I live in AZ so the AC runs a lot. It failed in July at 110 degrees outside.

It's happened 2 times in 2 years

1) First time = 1 month after buying the car brand new. Took them 3 months to resolve due to shortage of parts and freon fluid. I had to fight them for a rental in the mean time under their expense

2) Second time = May 2020

My appointment got cancelled 1 day after booking it due to shortage of parts. I called the dealership but they didn't answer because they were so busy. I called Honda Canada and had a super nice manager who offered to pay my rental until the problem was resolved due to my wife being pregnant. She was very kind and showed excellent customer service. Long story short, she made sure my appointment wasn't cancelled and they fixed the problem. Lets see if it will happen a third time or not.
