Civic EX-T 1.5L Turbo

  • CVT transmission
  • 47,000 miles

My problems originally started probably a year after I bought the car new. I would shut the all the doors and the car would beep at me like I left the keys in the car. This would happen every so often but not every time I drove. It became more persistent late Q4 2022 until I left the car sitting for a week (or longer because I work from home) and the battery was dead. It was 5 years since I bought the car so I replaced the battery thinking it was old but I left for a week again and the battery died again. I performed a battery draw test to see if something on the system was draining the battery when the car was "asleep" turns out there was a fluctuating load drawing current from the battery. I unplugged the drivers outer door handle on a hunch that it was sensing my hand appropriately. The electrical load returned to normal when I unplugged it. Its unplugged to this day because I cant get a new door handle due to backorder delays. So there's a dash light saying my keyless system has problem (door handle is unplugged) and the car beeps at me every time I close the doors before I lock it with the remote. BUT my battery isn't dying after long sits so problem solved.....partially. I want a new door handle though.

could not start car due to recurring electrical issue

The exact same issue I had with the car on April 26, which was . . .

First, I could not use the FOB to unlock the doors, I had to separate the key from the fob. The engine would not start due to all of the Brake System Problems (Brake system, ALB system, Brake Hold,Electric Parking Brake and VSA system.) Couldn't get towed because the transmission was locked, and the tires would then be dragged. After the battery was completely drained, I was able to get a jump. The dealer claims that I don't drive enough each day/week to fully charge the battery/alternator. I drive about 4 miles to work, then four miles back home about three or four times each week, and I do let the car sit for sometimes three days without starting. However, I think there is an underlining issue with the electrical system that is draining the battery, or some other issue locking me out of the car.
