combination meter malfunctions combination meter malfunctions

I have a Honda FIT 2015 EX with about 58K on it. I bought it pre-certified used 2 years ago this month. I am now experiencing the disappearing of the fuel gauge and odometer display for up to 5 min intervals, especially upon starting the car in the morning (but it's also happening on the freeway too). At first I thought it was a fluke, but now it's happening daily.

I've gone to the service dept. at the Honda dealership where I bought the car and at first was told they couldn't find anything wrong. Like if they can't see it (because once the car is running for the day, the problem doesn't show up), it doesn't exist. I pressed them with my photos and after heading into the Dir. of Services office, he said that the whole unit, called the 'combination meter assembly', would have to be replaced, for about $800 not including labor. That's $$$. When I researched this malfunction, it turns out that there are many people and many forums documenting this particular problem for the Honda FIT 2015 model.

It's very disconcerting to have this problem. It not only is a safety issue but it could be a liability issue re: odometer readings, being insured, future resale. If for any reason the odometer display is not reading correctly and not correctly displaying the proper # of miles, it's a more serious matter. Of course, not knowing how much fuel you have in your tank is also a serious matter!

This smells like a recall or a class action lawsuit to me. No way should any of us who own this make and model pay for this repair. It is Honda's fault. This definitely needs action from every single person on this who has this same problem.

The information gauge to the right of the steering wheel "Combination Meter" often goes crazy: flashing / unable to read any of the functions. It has currently proceeded to cease flashing leaving a solid blue screen with no readouts whatsoever. The flashing has happened periodically in the past year but has never gone blank until now. I have observed several complaints by other owners Re: the exact problem. I have not seen any fix for the failure. I have not seen any Recalls or "TSB`s" for this particular issue but would be surprised if Honda was not aware of it.

The failure seems to be affecting a large number of Fits of the current generation (assembled in Mexico). This failure affecting more than a few Fits should be cause for concern by Honda. I believe the failure is caused by a design flaw or a non conforming supplier part, be it a component, sender, connection, etc. I have worked in Supplier Quality and in my experience when there are a large number of identical failures of a component [gauge], etc the failure is not random but due to Supplier non-compliance. I believe that Honda should step up and rectify this matter to maintain their reputation. I am currently displeased.
