HR-V EX 4 cyl

  • CVT transmission
  • 4 miles

After purchasing our brand new 2018 HR-V EX AWD, the very first time I backed the vehicle up at night time it was immediately frustrating at how poorly the rear camera visibility is. It's practically worthless. I took to to the dealership to evaluate and they responded it's working as designed and is the same in all of the HR-V vehicles. I've also taken it to another dealership, and although they admitted the rear camera view is very very poor in comparison to other Honda vehicles, they also told me that this issue is with all of the HR-V vehicles and not just mine.

I even installed LED backup lights which were brighter, but the rear camera quality remains extremely digitized, grainy, and poor. In fact it's so poor, it's almost worthless. You can see if a car is behind you, but you just can't tell how close you are to it or if it even is a car. Yes, it's that bad. During the day it's fine, it's just useless at night time.

What made this issue more obvious to me is the fact we have a 2016 Honda Fit, to which the rear camera is exceptional at night. This is the performance I expected with my 2018 Honda HR-V, but am extremely disappointed. In some ways I expected it to be even better than my 2016 Honda Fit because it's a newer and larger vehicle.
