Odyssey EX-L 3.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 125,000 miles

Was on my way home today from my parent's house with my 3 young children and the drive side power rear door popped open while traveling down the interstate without warning. The alert alarm sounded when the door opened but that was after the fact. My 2 youngest were sitting in the middle row of seats when it happened and it scared them. I was able to pull over right away but to no avail the door would not even latch shut. I pulled all fuses including the clock fuse but didn't help, I pulled the battery cables off the battery to try and reset the doors but didn't help. I have no idea why the door out of nowhere will not latch. I called my brother to have him bring me a ratchet tie down to hold the door closed.

My brother-in-law owns a garage but has to wait till Monday so he can look at it. This is not the first time for our first Odyssey to have the door open on its own but it is the first time it won't latch. This is a serious issue that needs to be taken care of.

Odyssey EX

  • Automatic transmission
  • 77,000 miles

Left (driver's side) sliding door opened while I was driving with 4 children in the car. Very frightening! American Honda acknowledges that there is a Technical Service Bulletin for the Odyssey power sliding doors for the years 1999-01, and that "Honda is aware, even if the years don't match, of problems with the doors."

Please report such cases to the NHTSA.com (National Highway Traffic Safety Admin).

Maybe we can get this recalled before someone gets hurt.

Odyssey EXL

  • Automatic transmission

I bought the Odyssey after reviewing all vans to find the safest one I could get to carry my grandchildren in. I had two kids in babyseats in the second row and the power door came open. The master lock was on so all doors were locked. The dash did not indicate that any door was open either. Just screaming children. I took to the dealer today and they called American Honda and they told them it was impossible. We are very concerned and want this repaired- bought the 7 year warranty. If anyone else has had this problem I would like to know why American Honda is saying it is impossible and that they have never had this happen.
