I'm disappointed that my 2002 Honda Odyssey with only 80,000 miles needed this kind of work! I've had all service done on time and AT the Honda place. I had just had all the belts and such replaced on schedule 3 months prior to this problem. We were initially told that when the crankshaft pulley breaks it "rarely involves the engine". Ours did involve the engine. We were then told that it'd be around $6,000 if only the upper engine; $9,000 if upper and lower. We got a case manager involved (HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS). They paid "half" and our total ended up being only $1500+ (for the repair)... but at $109/day for a month our car rental would have been over $3,000! Luckily we were able to borrow a car big enough for our family along the way from a friend. I was glad that the case manager did what he did, but it wasn't good enough. Not when you expect a Honda to go well into the 300,000 miles and more. Maddening!
