Odyssey

  • Automatic transmission
  • 3,000 miles

I took in the Honda to the Honda dealership every tune-up, starting in 2003 when I bought it new, and explained the problem, and they said there was nothing they could do. I even took the van in for the recall, which they said didn't apply. Last year, the transmission completely failed. I found out the transmission was defective, and they never bothered to recall or fix the problem. I bought the Honda because I thought I could count on the vehicle for at least 200,000 miles, but so far the paint has flaked off and the transmission has failed. Apparently they fixed the problem after 2005, but Honda doesn't want to address the issue for prior to 2005.

Odyssey LX-L 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 92,000 miles

This is not only aggravating but dangerous. I won't let my wife drive the car again. Honda Corp. has demonstrated a disregard for the their customers. I will never buy another honda partially because I wouldn't trust the car to perform as promised partly because I think the company is dishonest in their dealings with customers.

Odyssey LX

  • Automatic transmission
  • 90,000 miles

Transmission failed just after we purchased car with only 90k miles. Hesitation with gear shifting, car froze up on highway and almost stopped with our two little kids in car.

Recall was performed on car in '04 and although clearly seems to relate to Honda trans issues Honda refused to support goodwill. It's completely unacceptable that a transmission would fail with only 90k miles. We now are responsible for covering repairs which are practically half or a 1/4 of what we paid for the car. American Honda reps not customer oriented, friendly or supportive at all. My family and I are generations of long time Honda owners but I don't know that I'll purchase a Honda again.

Odyssey EX V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

We have a Honda Odyssey 2003 . Initially when we bought the vehicle at 58,000 miles there was a slight hesitation from park to drive, drive to reverse etc. We did not think anything of it initially until we spoke to other Honda Odyssey owners and they did not note any hesitation in their vehicle and then we got worried and began to pay more attention. Soon after my brother had his transmission go out in his Honda Odyssey 2002 around 112,000. The hesitation got progressively worse and when we brought it in at 105,000 miles for a routine check up at the Honda dealership they also noted the problem but assured us that the recall had been done prior and we should be good to go. One week after we saw the "D" light flashing but it stopped and we did not know what it meant. Now 10,000 miles later the "D" light has flashed again, the hesitation has gotten worse and now there is slipping between 2nd gear and we have stopped driving the vehicle. We have brought it to the dealership and are in the process of trying to get Honda to take responsibility for the problem. They say our complaint is not included in the recall because the recall is "only for locking up." Our question is won't it lock up if we continue to drive the vehicle and if the recall was done in 2005 and it was driven for 2 years without adequate oil to the gears, did this not cause damage to the transmission? I have had 2 Honda's prior to this and they were excellent vehicles. We enjoy our Odyssey and other than this it has been good to us. In this case Honda put out a transmission with a major problem from our research from 2000-2003. We are hoping Honda will take responsibility for their product and restore our faith in their product and company. I'm a loyal customer when I'm treated fairly but if not I guess my next new vehicle will be a Toyota Sienna.

Odyssey LX V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 78,290 miles

Like others reporting on this site, I found that the transmission skips at highway speeds - in all gears, and not just a little. Pressing on accelerator revs engine to 3000 - 4000 RPM before gears shift, and it shifts with a lurch. We haven't yet had it in to the shop

UNBELIEVABLE!!!! My wife and I just purchased our Honda Odessey from a prestigues dealer. It is a 2003 Honda Odessey EXL loaded..."Certified Pre-Owned " with warranty. 66,000 miles, and we purchased an extended warranty on top of that. Have had it only a few weeks. We noticed the transmission slipping a bit off and on once every 2,3 days. It happens when accelerating. So I took the van into the dealer and explained it to them. They could not reproduce the problem and said that we are to keep bringing it in each time it does it. They tried to charge me for the technicians reviewing and test driving it, but I refused. NO JUSTICE! Honda should replace the transmission , IT IS BAD. I can tell , it is going bad. Wasted 2 hours hanging around the dealership. What they should do is make it right, provide a rental minvan, while mine is taken in and transmission is replaced with NEW ONE. The problem is they don't have sufficient test equipment to isolate and find the problem because it is intermittant. Honda needs to step up to the plate and recognize this and fix the problem, instead of making the consumer keep bringing it back and forth and the dealer wants to assess a charge each time, whether they find the problem or not. RIDICULOUS! 30 DAY TAGS STILL ON THE VAN, THIS SUCKS! What happens when my wife has to make an emergency evasive action to avoid and accident, and the transmission decides to slip and she loses 100% of the torque and it causes a severe accident ???? HONDA , FIX YOUR PRODUCT AND TAKE CARE OF YOUR CUSTOMERS PLEASE! THIS ISN'T RIGHT ! IT ISN'T RIGHT ! DEC. 12-2006

Odyssey EX

  • 23,000 miles

Between 50 - 60 mph, the transmission skips. I am upset at the fact that everytime I contact Honda about the problem they want to say, "It is just a characteristic of the type of transmission". Well, what type is that? Can you say "CRAPPY"! My husband and I represent most of America, you know us MIDDLE income families trying to get a reliable vehicle... OUR ONLY VEHICLE... We can not afford to keep taking it to the dealership for them to say (A) they can't duplicate the problem or (B) it is just a characteristic... Well which is it. They REFUSE to give us a loaner or rent us a vehicle so they can keep it for more than a day.... Now the vehicle gets stuck in Park..... Im not on an incline and the steering column is straight... Hey Honda guys..... I'm not stupid..... SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS VAN!!!
