At slow speed, the steering at times seems to lose the electronic control and become manual. This is a safety hazard.

Honda eventually issued a recall on the PS pump, but the recall only covered vehicles with less than 100k miles. As my car had just passed this mileage, I was ineligible for the recall.

Besides being hard to park due to it being very difficult to turn when going slow, the front end has been rattling under certain road conditions since new. The rattling is getting worse with age and now a squeak has appeared. My wife no longer feels safe driving the car. We are just hoping that the front wheel doesn't fall off whenever we hit a rough patch in the road. The dealer is of no help. They heard the noise but say everything is tight. The power steering pump is fine, but we need two hands to park the car. They won't admit the car has issues. At least Toyota steps up and fixes known problems.

Odyssey EX V6

  • Automatic transmission

My Odyssey had a little over 100,000 miles when the power steering started going down to zero when trying to park or to back out of the garage. Any slow speed steering is very difficult for me, and is almost impossible for my wife. I am in the process of researching this problem. Anyone with a suggestion on fixing the problem is welcomed.

Lost powersteering at idle. Called honda and they would not fix the problem, even though this is a known problem, they put a small filter built into the resevoir which gets pluged with debris over time and cuts down the amount of fluid going too the powersteering pump causing it too cavatate. I am an ase master mechanic so I fixed the problem my self. I bought a after market pump from advanced auto,$122.99 with a lifetime warranty, 6 bottles of powersteering fluid made for hondas, this is used too flush out the powersteering system and install new fluid when job is done, and a new resevoir from honda, cost is $14.77, need too repace this because the filter that gets pluged is built into the resevoir. So I fixed the problem for $153.72 in parts. After finishing the job the powersteering worked great and I lost the vibration I was getting in the wheel at speeds over 55 mph, it work as good as the day it was new. It is an easy job too replace the powersteering pump, i think the hardest part of the whole job is removing the serpentine belt. Good luck with your problems, master mech 1969.

for not more than 200$.

While looking around I noticed that this steering problem is not a localized case.. That is to say that pumps are bad on hundreds of the 2006 and 2007 odyssey vehicles. I also found that Honda sent out a service bulletin specifically dealing with this problem. so I decided to see if I can have Honda fix the problem by calling Honda at 800-999-1009 option 7 to open a case. I was told by Honda America that I could take the vehicle in to have it looked at and then the report will be published in a case file where they can decide what to do.

I called the local dealership here in Lancaster C.A. and was told to have it looked at it would cost 180$...(43226 Drivers Way, Lancaster - (661) 945-3521)... that price will be directed to the labor and repairs if I decided to use them. With this in mind I asked Glenn the maintenance manager that if he heard of or seen Honda repair bad pump knowing that they are having problems to which he replied no and the repair will cost somewhere between 400 and 600$...(WTF) I said!!! and quickly canceled the appointment. I then received a call from the case manager Michael from Honda of America and I told him the above, he replied that I needed to pay the money and then they can help (maybe) I explained that the price they wanted for a "trained" mechanic to look at the problem was just a few dollars short of a new pump and that if I paid out that money would Honda fix the problem. He replied that the case would be reviewed with no guarantee...

With all this said Honda should be ashamed of their companies and employees actions. Yes I know they are there to make money, but when you have a known problem and one that is more likely than not a safety issue a company should step up and do the right thing. Then again Maybe I have just been brain washed all these years that I served our country into thinking that do the right thing is what you should do.

Anyways long story short I will be changing the pump myself this weekend..

But wanted to let people know the problems that I am having with Honda, I know that this will affect where I will by my next car and it will not be a Honda

I thought Odysseys were a great van and Honda has mastered it having been a producer of the mini van but it is quite not so. I took my van to the dealer for fixing a very tight and extremely difficult to turn, steering issue and prompt came the answer that the steering pump has to be replaced. They want to charge me $700 for the fix. This surely is a manufacturing defect and not sure why a consumer would have to pay for it as it is a defective pump and I noticed that 36 other members on autobeef have the same issue and now I am sure all the 2006 Odysseys will have this issue one time or the other based on reading the reports on this site. Is there any address to contact Honda for this issue. Suggestions are most appreciated so that we all can benefit.
