Two separate instances have occurred, both at slow speeds, around 5 mph, my van suddenly accelerated, and after putting it in neutral and punching the pedal down, it returned to normal rpms. A little unsettling, especially if the driver panics.

The vsa warning light keeps coming on along with an exclamation sign. It prevents acceleration and causes temporary loss of power while driving. Also, prevents use of cruise control. It temporarily resets when engine is turned off but then turns on again while driving. This occurs while vehicle is in motion on city streets as well as highways.

When my wife was turning 90 degrees into a parking stall at 5 mph, the van suddenly accelerated at such a rate that the van smashed into a brick wall in front of the stall. It hit with enough impact that it made a loud enough noise that other parked drivers looked over to see what happened and my van has visible scrapes on the front from the impact

Driving very slowly uphill in a hospital parking deck, the principal driver of the car turned into an available parking slot applying some gas, from 25-30 feet away, only to have the vehicle accelerate uncontrollably, even with the driver's right foot fully engaged with the brake pedal. The van jumped over parking blocks at the end of the space and struck a concrete post, whereupon the engine compartment crumpled and the airbags engaged. The van bounced back approximately twenty feet. Witnesses attracted by the sound of squealing tires, revving engine noise (before impact) and the subsequent crash itself came to render assistance and call police. The driver's right's foot was severely bruised by the crash impact and her sternum fractured. The vehicle was a declared total loss.

We bought this 2007 Honda Odyssey a few months ago, and ever since we have owned it, it will just keep going for awhile at the same speed we had it at, even though we take our foot off the gas. We have to put it in neutral to stop, or it will pull a bit hard on the brakes. We can stop it like this, but it will wear the brakes out fast. Also, when we put it in drive or reverse, after a few seconds, it speeds up a little. It will just go down the road slowly without putting our foot on the gas. If we leave it in reverse, it will accelerate right through the garage, if we let it. After it is in neutral for a few seconds, it finally goes back down to a regular RPM, but goes back up every 6 seconds or so, then back down, etc... also, when it is idling, and I turn the steering wheel, it revs up again on it's own. We have had the throttle body cleaned, and had it completely checked on a scanner, and nothing came up; everything looked good on the scanner.

On October 16, 2013, my Honda accelerated at a fast speed up my driveway and caused $6,178.37 in repair costs and slammed into my front porch. The brakes did not work to stop the car. We immediately informed Honda and our insurance carrier of the accident, and the car was towed to Honda in old bridge, NJ, as it could not be driven due to damage. On 11/15/2013, see claims summary, Honda could not determine if this an acceleration issue. They never informed us of what the issue was. Honda did not provide me with a rental car, so I had to rent a car from 10/21/13 to 11/26/13, which I paid $603.96 out of pocket (receipts enclosed). The amount of time Honda was way too long fix my car and I had pay additional rental costs due to their unreasonable delay. Shortly, after Honda repaired my car, I received a recall notice that the brakes were recalled. Really? this is why my car would not stop. There have been several recalls on my Honda. A year after purchase, the engine broke down. I wrote to NJ attorney general, who wrote back and asked that I write to you. I am also attaching pictures of the accident. There are tire marks in the driveway due to the high speed of the acceleration. Photos fluids running down my driveway, and the damaged front end. I have also enclosed NJ manufacturer's, copy of the claim summary dated 11/15/13. This matter is very upsetting to me and the way it was handled by Honda. My husband, also purchased a new Pilot, and my Honda were both purchased new at the same Honda. I know there are acceleration issues with this Honda and this was an acceleration issue and a mechanical issue on the fault of the brakes I am requesting to be reimbursed for the car rental, insurance deductible and a refund of the cost I paid for the Honda in the amount of $28,931.46. My car has never driven the same since the accident.

Sudden, uncontrolled acceleration of the engine: Three times within the last week our 2007 Honda Odyssey started rapidly accelerating (rev-ing) while I was applying brakes as I was coming to a stop sign. I avoided a possible accident by applying stiff braking pressure while rapidly putting the car in park and then turning off the engine. Only after I turned off the ignition did the car stop rev-ing. That seemed to fix it the first and second time because when I turned the car back on again, it behaved normally for the rest of the trip. The third time it happened as I was slowing and coming to a stop behind another car, and after I had turned off the ignition, it starting reving again just as soon as the engine started. So I turned it off again and counted to ten, and then it started normally. I took it to the dealer and they cannot find anything wrong. They say it might be something to do with the throttle body (whatever that is) and they say they opened it up and cleaned it out, but really couldn't say what might have caused it. This is really scary because if I hadn't been able to react quickly and apply stiff braking pressure, I could have continued into traffic where I almost certainly would have been hit by cross traffic (the first two times) or would have run into the car that was stopped ahead of me (this last time). (by "rev-ing" I mean the engine is racing, I.e., making lots of revolutions per minute. As if the driver was stepping on the accelerator pedal.)

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. While parking 5 mph with the brakes engaged, the vehicle suddenly accelerated without warning and there was a sudden increase in engine rpms. As a result, the vehicle crashed into an electrical cable box. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was repaired. Two days later, the vsa light illuminated and was repaired. Updated 7/14/15

While driving at approximately 60 mph without cruise control, the van decelerated to 20 mph on its own. The engine warning light came on. The vehicle was driven at 20mph for 1/4 mile and parked for 20 min. With the engine running; the van was then driven at speeds below 35 mph (engine light on), then increased to 50-60 mph for 6 miles when the deceleration recurred. The van was driven at 20 mph for 4 miles. Depressing the accelerator only increased the engine RPM, no velocity increase. The van was driven the next day at speeds below 45 mph (no engine light) with no problems. Problem codes identified as #2 & #6 spark plugs misfired (non-permanent). Honda service drove the van at 60 mph three different times for a total of 20 miles without any problems. The failure occurred after the van was driven 3000 interstate miles after NHTSA recall 13V500 (vsa) repair. The van has not been repaired--no known cause for the deceleration.

I purchased the vehicle referenced above in 2007 from hudson Honda and about 6 months after the purchase, I began having acceleration problems with the van. The vehicle will accelerate on its own and I have to either throw the car into neutral or turn it off abruptly in order to stop the increase in speed. I have contacted the dealer I purchased it from and upon the first inspection, I was informed the mechanic could not duplicate the problem and did not find any mechanical issues. The problem has continued intermittently...most recently in December 2013 while driving from New Jersey to miami. I was taking an exit with an incline in Maryland and as I began to accelerate, the speed increased at such a rate that I had to throw the van into neutral to stop the vehicle and prevent an accident. I have contacted the dealer on several occasions and the response I have received is that they cannot find a problem. The van accelerates without warning, around speeds up to 30mph and occurs whether I'm driving uphill, downhill, or on a flat surface. My last visit, with the same complaint, cost $1623.45 and I am still having problems. I am very concerned that a safety issue is not being addressed and has the potential of causing injury to myself or others.

Today while slowly pulling into a parking space, my 2007 Odyssey suddenly accelerated on its own. I had just taken my foot off the brake and let the car coast forward a little before I parked it when it lurched forward. I was able to hit the brakes hard and stop it quickly before any damage was done, but I was very shaken up and afraid to drive home. I called the dealer and will have the car towed for examination.

I forgot to add the recall number on the vsa device that locks up without drivers involvement and causes accidents. I was told by Honda it is 13-098 in my former complaint today. Bottom line, if I drive it with this unsafe condition and it locks up and causes an accident, who is liable for damages etc" if I don't drive it I have no car until repaired. Does or is Honda responsible to provide us a car until ours is repaired and safe again. I received a recall notice and now tom scott Honda in nampa id said they can't repair it until sometime next year because they can't get parts until then. From my understanding this vehicle is being recalled because the brakes lock up do to the vsa device malfunctioning and causing accidents in which people are getting hurt. What is the answer"

Approx 10/2/13 was driving on a road I travel frequently and was accelerating when suddenly my car lost power and slowed rapidly. I thought it was a fluke then on 10/11/13 I was driving a road I travel on daily when suddenly my car slowed by about 30 mph in just a few seconds. I put my foot on the brake and realized it was already engaged and was why I was slowing down. 10/16/13 - car went to dealer to be repaired. Dealer found source codes dtc 26-1 lateral acc sensor, and dtc 27-1 steering angle sensor but could not replicate and told me they did not know what the fix was. 10/17/13 - was driving on the same road as on 10/11 - clanging/grating sound in steering column and then brakes engaged, was accelerating slowly prior to this. Slowed down almost to a stop, then slowly accelerated again. Within a quarter of a mile it happened again (was driving slower at this time B/C I was worried it would happen again), this time the triangle w/ the exclamation point on it flickered (this is the first time it came on, all other times no lights or anything). Taking it back to dealer tomorrow but unless it happens to them was told there was nothing they could do. Repeatedly told them of the investigation but they said they don't know the fix. Thankfully no one was behind me during these occurrences but if they had there would have been an accident due to how fast the car decelerated.

While accelerating onto freeway at approximately 45 mph the brakes fully engaged and engine power was lost while my foot was on the accelerator. Speed decreased by about 25mph in just a few seconds. With my foot still on the accelerator engine engaged again and we increased speed to about 45 mph, when the automatic transmission was going to shift into overdrive, the same incident occurred again! power was regained at the same speed about 25 mph. We speeded up to about 45 mph again and this time I looked at the brake pedal. The brakes fully engaged themselves again the brake pedal actually depressed while I had my foot on accelerator only! I then took the overdrive off and put the transmission in D3 mode. The incident didn't occur again while in D3 mode. I was left having to drive on freeway around 55mph scared for my and my families lives! this vehicle self engaged brakes fully three times, while my foot was on accelerated only!

I entered a highway and was accelerating to a speed of approx. 35 mph when the vehicle suddenly decelerated, as if the brakes had been slammed on, causing me to lurch forward, triggering the seat belts to tighten. I maintained steering control, removed my foot from the gas pedal, then suddenly the vehicle accelerated rapidly without my pressing on the gas pedal. This happened four times within approximately 60 seconds. I'm stating this mildly when I say the experience was terrifying. I pulled over, turned the car off, and called our mechanic who advised I slowly and safely drive the van to the shop, which wasn't too far away, or consider having it towed. I chose to drive slowly to the mechanics and the problem did not occur again. Upon diagnostic testing, our mechanic said it was a steering sensor that lost its memory and needed reset, an easy fix and that while this problem is rare, it's not unheard of, yet it shouldn't happen again. (we had recently had new tires installed prior to this event, the mechanic suspected that while the tires were being changed, the sensor's memory must have been wiped.) the second event was this past wed., Oct. 2, the same experience as before happened again. Only on this occasion, our mechanic's diagnostic testing did not provide a code as it had before, but recognizing the complaint, they reset the sensor again. In both events, the roads were dry, clear weather, we were driving on new tires and at low speeds, having just moments before turned on the ignition and begun accelerating. We are now being told that our vehicle has two broken motor mounts. We highly suspect this is due to the sudden jerking back and forwards from this involuntary deceleration/acceleration issue; it's an expensive repair! Honda needs to recall this model and get a fix asap. We are thankful this hasn't caused an accident--yet. Bought this van used in 2010.

While traveling on flat, level surface streets at roughly 40mph, car would spontaneously downshift (to 1st gear?) causing the vehicle to slow very quickly/lots of drag (locking up seatbelts) as if the brakes were applied quickly. The vehicle will then reshift back into a higher gear with little to no resistance again. This may happen 1-4 times within a 60 second period. Pulling the car over, turning off and turning on again seems to fix issue. Shifting into second gear, seemed to fix issue. Shifting into neutral, power cycling car seemed to fix issue. Over the last 6 months or so, this has happened ~2X month.

I was driving about 35-40 mph at a steady rate on an empty street. My foot was on the gas pedal and the car suddenly slowed down quickly. The car steering pulled to the right and I felt vibrations in my foot that was on the gas pedal. This lasted about 5-10 seconds, then resolved and the car went back to it's previous speed. This happened 4 more times in the next few minutes. During these episodes I looked down and confirmed that my foot was in the proper place, and I actually saw the brake depress spontaneously a few millimeters. I also checked the carpet and pulled it far away to make sure it was not interfering with the pedal. I was on an isolated road, so fortunately no cars were behind me. I arrived at my destination and had the car towed to the Honda dealer. My car was at the burns Honda repair shop for a week and they insisted there was nothing wrong with it and returned I never drove it again.
