Vehicle affected is a 2008 Honda Odyssey. While driving various speeds, the ABS would erroneously activate and caused the vehicle to suddenly decelerate. During the failure, the vehicle stability control warning indicator illuminated. The if coming to a complete stop, auto would not go into gear when accelerator pressed. Worked better in D2, still having same issues. And reverse not working at all. Burning smell like that of rubber. Battery light was also on, had not been on before. VIN# is (xxxxx). Taking the vehicle into mckinney Honda dealership of North Texas Honda group. Incident occurred on 9/18/2019, will be taken to dealer 9/19/2019 redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I have spent over $4000 in repair costs and my car just shut down completely and will not start. I have had to have my car towed three times once to Honda dealership and twice to a repair shop. All this msoney spent and car still doesn't work right, now it just stopped working completely. All lights on dashboard start flickering then car starts stopping itself while all lights go crazy. Car starts stalling itself while I'm driving making it extremly unpridictable and unsafe. Car has gotten so hot that it melted a new battery that needed to be replaced along with alternator. Still after all this still not working right all the electricals go crazy brakes, locks and everything else now car has completely stopped. Yet no one can find out what's wrong. It has happened on road and on highway very unpridictable. Curtis Honda in milford had my car for 4 days couldn't find anything yet it stalled and stopped on me only a day after picking it up from milford dealership. They could not find or would not find why. All lights go crazy and stop shut off my vehichle. After all this vehicle started I drove it around town all of a sudden all lights started going crazy and started stopping on it's own until it completly died.

My vsa light came on and is an added feature for stability to prevent overturning, the cost to replace the module is over 1200 dollars. My year, make, and model has had recalls for this issue but my VIN # pulls up no recalls. I have twin toddlers and feel this is a safety feature I would like repaired on the manufactures side, not out of my pocket, thanks

Persistent problems with the brake system since the 2010 vsa/ABS modulator recall. They system continues to have a soft pedal which requires pumpung the pedal to get effective braking, resulting in extended stop distances. The system requires periodic bleeding of the brakes despite repeated assurances from Honda dealers that the system is/was fixed correctly under the recall. The vsa modulator has now failed and Honda is quoting over $1,600 to repair the system despite ongoing service documentation illustrating the system apparently was not fixed under the recall - at least not effectively.

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the vehicle stability assist light illuminated while driving at an unknown speed. As a result, the brake system engaged on its own. The dealer repaired the vehicle according to NHTSA campaign number: 10V098000 (service brakes, air), but the failure continued. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

My husband, myself and my 3 children (ages 7, 4, and 1) were coming home from the phillies game at approximately 10:30 pm Saturday, September 7th, 2013. Upon entering the on ramp for a major roadway, my husband began accelerating to approximately 50 mph. He had his foot on the gas pedal, when the van braked spontaneously. In a matter of seconds, our speed decreased from 50 to 25-30. Our seatbelts all locked as we were lunged forward. There was a car directly behind us, who had to swerve into another lane to avoid rear ending us. It was as if someone slammed on the brakes, however no one did. This happen 3 or 4 more times within a 5-7 minute time frame, so we immediately pulled over to try and figure out what was happening. I immediately googled this issue and found that there was an ongoing investigation for 2007 and 2008 Odyssey for the same issue. I read that this has something to do with the vehicle stability system, so we pressed the vsa off button and drove home at a speed of 30 mph in case it happened again. No further spontaneous braking occurred once the vsa was off. I took the car into hamilton Honda this morning and spoke to service manager. They are currently evaluating the van. I am waiting to hear what they find.

In February 2008, I purchased a new Honda Odyssey minivan for my family. In the spring of 2010, I began to experience the following problem: After making a turn (right or left),during acceleration, the Odyssey's brakes will automatically engage, immediately slowing the van down. When this happens, the vehicle decelerates from 55mph to 20mph in seconds, engaging the shoulder harness of our seat-belts. Over the past three years, this has happened at least seven to ten times at various speeds and in various seasons of the year. I have returned the van to Honda at least four times. Because an indicator light does not come on and because they cannot duplicate the problem, our service department at Honda tells us there is nothing they can do. In November 2012, however, the computer registered a vsa code after one of several braking incidents. Honda then replaced the vsa module in the steering column. That seemed to have fixed the problem until two weeks ago, when we had yet another sudden halt when pulling out into traffic. When my wife took the van to Honda, the young service man blamed the vsa malfunction on tire wear and then tried to sell her a new set of tires. Honda did re-calibrate the vsa again during this visit. Today, September 2, 2013 the brakes locked down again, this time, when accelerating at a slower speed. It has been very frustrating to deal with the service department of our Honda dealership. I have read online of identical incidents. Having experienced this sudden braking, there will be serious accidents if Honda does not seek to correct this problem.

The vsa light has been on and off for about two weeks, but user manual says it is okay for "normal driving". when I was driving about 40-45 mph, the vsa lights was on. I kept driving normally. Then we I tried to apply brake to slow down, the brake light turned on. After I released the brake, the car seemed to applied brake on itself even harder. It happened many times during the past few weeks and this time I definitely felt it.

As I accelerated onto the road, my Odyssey braked hard and suddenly. The vehicle behind me, also accelerating, jerked and swerved around me to avoid collision (this seen in rear view mirror). I pulled over and stopped, restarted and listened to the engine, and looked for indicator lights. I resumed driving only to have the sudden braking recur a mile up the road. At that point I spoke with my husband on the phone and turned off the automatic braking system. No further incidents so far.

So far, on 3 separate occasions while applying the gas pedal the brakes were engaged and nearly stopped the vehicle. On each occasion it happened during acceleration and speeds went from nearly 40 to 10-15 mph each time. No pressure was applied to the brakes in any of these incidents.

Minivan was brought to dealer to fix an overly-soft brake pedal, per a recall letter. Car was returned with brakes equally soft (or worse), so that even a "panic brake" procedure (using 240 lb of foot strength) could not trigger the ABS, brake assist, or other brake safety features. Car was returned to the (same) dealer twice more, with no improvement. Calls to Honda brought no results. Although there may be a simple fix (e.g., bleeding the brake fluid), Honda made no attempt to diagnose and repair the problems that arose during a recall procedure.
