Odyssey EX-L Navi 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 18,641 miles

On a recent trip, my portable Garmin NUVI 2589LMT calculated that a 373 km (approx. 233 mile) trip would take 4 hours and 39 minutes. The Garmin Navi in the Odyssey calculated that the trip (with the exact same distance, route and destination) would take 6 hours and 14 minutes...a difference of 95 minutes. I have had the NUVI for a couple of years and it is always very accurate. It usually takes less time than estimated because not many people drive the exact speed limit.

I had the van to the dealer for a SiriusXM and engine knock problem and I asked if we could compare the estimated arrival time on my van to a new Odyssey with navigation. They obliged and the two Odysseys were exactly the same, which leads me to believe there is something wrong with the speed limit calculation in their software.

Garmin has refused to develop a fix. In my mind, there is no reason why they cannot fix it...so somewhere in Honda or Garmin, someone has decided to not fix it...and Garmin Tech Support is not about to give me the details.

I suspect very few people have complained because they are unaware of the problem. The only reason I noticed it is because I entered a destination which I knew the distance to and approx. travel time, and it was way out of whack.
