problem #6

Feb 022007

Accent 4-cyl

  • Manual transmission
  • 102 miles
Changing gears when the gear shift let go. I had no more gears couldn't drive. Turns out the shifter rod goes into the transmission and is held in place with a shear pin. Shear pin broke I had to replace transmission pins are not supposed to break according to a Hyundai mechanic. But lately they have had a few vehicles with the same problem I think this should be a recall. It cost me 900 because of a pin that's not supposed to break. Thank you for listening. I hope you can do something about it. Thank you.

Initially, the shift would "get stuck" between first and second gear. They kept taking the car back, saying they were going to "look at it" or "we found a little part and fixed it"..this went on until they stated they put in a new transmission. When this did not help, they said they could no longer do anything because the problem could not "duplicated" for them. The problem continued for months. I came close to having an accident when I couldn't get into reverse one time, to get out of the way of traffic. I continued to stay in touch...they told me that they couldn't do anything, because they never could find the problem. They finally called me a couple of months ago and admitted that Hyundai had sent them some info about a problem with shifting in first and second gear, and that they could fix it. We took the car back. They "fixed" it so well that when I got it home, it would "pop" from fifth gear to neutral while I was driving...they took it back, "fixed it again"...said it was a "worn nut" or something. Now the car makes a "chain type sound" and bumps while in first and second gear...this has happened about ten times over the past five days. They said they can't do anything because they can't "duplicate" the problem....please help...I might be dead before the problem is ever "duplicated" to these people....they won't keep the car long enough to fix it. I think they feel it's "our problem."
