Noticed a small paint chip on the roof of my 2011 Hyundai Elantra early January 2018, it has gotten slightly bigger over time, but now within the last week I have had 2 more spots develop (1 on the drivers side door, another on the hood). Has anyone figured out what the result was from the class action lawsuit?

paint chipping

So.. Hyundai uses this special scratch concealing/healing paint that is well known to be defective!!! California heard a class action suite regarding it. As one of the many lucky recipients of this paint, I tried everything to get Hyundai to at least be accountable for a portion of the cost to re-spray their defective paint on the hood of my 2011 Elantra, as the paint has begun to separate from the car as the many other Hyundai owners are experiencing. Its left a large ugly bare patch of grey primer that really stands out on the hood of my pearl white car. It just started for me, you need to see some of the posted pics to get a feel for the extent of this problem for Hyundai owners. There is absolutely no acceptable reason what-so-ever that this started happening. There are just too many Hyundai owners experiencing Hyundai's body paint separation for it not to be recalled as a defective paint issue. Lucky for Hyundai it doesn't start happening for a couple years of the suns ultraviolet rays that is breaking down their paint. So many people get rid of their cars before this time frame has passed, and the paint problems gets hidden with the next owner of the car buying it used. I have had many vehicles over my many years of driving and never did I see anything even close to this. It screams MAUFACTURING DEFECT, I felt like I needed a Korean interpreter to get any acknowledgement for some basic/logical concerns that I was trying to get any acknowledgment for. I quickly realized I was talking to "THE HAND" Hyundai is also known for taking zero accountability for out of warranty issues, which in this case with no drivers health concerns we don't stand a prayer for them to man up for the crappy paint they continued to use up to 2016, not sure about 2017? So your Hyundai depreciates even quicker than the normal Hyundai drop in depreciation, Hyundai's have one of the quickest depreciations in the industry. Enough of my rant, but I will keep spreading the word, till they take some financial responsibility for their defective paint.

I don't want to hear that my car is not covered by warranty because of the mileage, why should Hyundai get off free and clear for any accountability to their loyal Hyundai customers that were unfortunate enough to received this bogus "self healing", self peeling, defectively flawed paint that was sprayed on their cars. They shouldn't be able to use the mileage card to avoid being the responsible party to repair the peeling paint on the hoods of our cars. I.e.:Toyota had to replace the chassis on thousands of their vehicles due to rust, I know this personally to be true, my next door neighbor had his complete chasse replaced by Toyota , so I know it to be true. I'm 58, I've owned many cars over my 43 years of driving and I promise you, I have never ever experienced the paint on any of my cars to just peel off in large chunks without any stone or any kind of impact what-so-ever to get a peel started. Hyundai is taking no blame or accountability for using self healing paints that has been discontinued by other major car manufacturers for the same reason.

The way the paint is peeling is horrible. Went to wash my car and a strip peeled off on drivers side door. This car is only 5 years old. It looks like there was only one coat of paint, it's so thin. Now< I have been reading peeling paint is a consistent problem with Hyundai. They should recall these cars and repaint them.

I purchased my 2011 Hyundai Elantra on march 2011 brand new, a couple months later not even an year later the engine light lit up, and I noticed my paint started chipping, it started in the back bumper. It was like the size of a dime it started off with.

I took it to the dealership where I purchased it and I had a very very hard time with the people at the service desk trying to explain and getting them to fix the problem. They gave me such a hard time and they told me that paint was covered in the warranty. When I purchased it they told me bumper to bumper was covered. I don't know if they were just being lazy or because I am a girl.

So I ended up showing up with my husband after an hour arguing with these rude people they finally decided to fix it. When I got it back, they did a very lousy job it looked like they had just gotten a paint brush and dabbed some paint on it and let it dry. Month after month I noticed the paint started chipping again from the same area. I was so tired of dealing with these people I knew and I hated the fact about going back to tell these people. They just do not help you at all. I don't even know why they advertise great customer service if they don't even know how to give it!! I dreaded the fact about thinking about going back that wasn't the only thing I had issues with.

I also started having issues with my engine light. It started turning and staying on a couple of months after I bought the car, not even a year old!! And to me it just didn't seem like it would function right when this light was on. I took it back to the dealership like 5 different times when I got it back the engine light would be off but right the next day it would turn on to this day it is still on. All those 5 or 6 times they never even fixed it. They told me to stop bringing in because they weren't able to determine what was wrong with it for it being such a new car!!

I am sooo mad!! 1st the paint then the engine light. Now every now and then when the check engine light comes on the light looks like a slippery road comes on as well and the car doesn't go over 40 miles per hour even when I'm on the highway it loses speed. I almost got into an accident for this. I'm scared because it happens a lot now and I don't know when it is gonna happen, I'm scared and upset at the same time. because the dealership can't find nothing wrong with it the 5 or six time I've taken it. And the paint I'm gonna try to take it back in and fight with these people. I just don't think I should be going through this.
