In the morning rush hour, when trying to accelerate to merge with oncoming traffic the ESC light comes on. As I am trying to merge and move over while changing lanes in oncoming traffic, the ESC light flickers on and the car de-accelerates. Cars coming behind me are flashing their lights and some blow their horns as I am pressing on the accelerator, which is not working. The button to turn off the ESC system is not in a convenient location on the left side of the dashboard - it's hidden out of view. I was finally able to find the button and turn OFF the ESC system so that the accelerator would work. On my way home that night the ESC light again went on and the car AGAIN lost acceleration ability. The roads were dry and there was no weather problems. I again had to turn OFF the ESC system in order to drive the car.
The dealer said to bring the car in when this happens, but in the morning I had to get to work. In the evening they close by 5 or 6, so even if I take the car in the mechanics are ready to go home and when the car is turned off all the problems "clear out" as if nothing had happened. It is totally unpredictable as to when the ESC light decides to flicker on, but it's always when I can't get it to the dealer because they are often closed at that hour.
I began experiencing this problem before the car was at 30,000 miles, but didn't know what was happening. By doing online research, I learned about the ESC system and how to turn it off. When I first reported it to the dealer they lied to me, saying this was unheard of by Hyundai and that no error code was showing up in the computer, therefore it wasn't that serious.
I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR!!! IT'S NOT SAFE!! AT SOME POINT SOMEONE IS GOING TO HIT ME BECAUSE I CAN'T MERGE QUICKLY ENOUGH WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY DECIDES TO DE-ACCELERATE IN TRAFFIC - - - - AND I CAN'T FIND THE BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE ESC SYSTEM FAST ENOUGH!! OMG!!!.........WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!! HYUNDAI NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM SINCE IT APPEARS LOTS OF OTHERS VEHICLES ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM!! RECALL!!!! RECALL!!! RECALL!!!
