I took my Hyundai elantra to a local garage for an oil change on 11/16/21. The mechanic's rep called and said there were metal shavings in the oil. They did not do the oil change. They showed me the TSB which detailed the issue and that the engine would need to be replaced. My VIN verified that the engine was built in Alabama (the origin of the problem). They gave me a Hyundai dealer's (Annapolis, MD) contact information. I was told the car would have to be diagnosed, pictures taken, then info submitted to corporate. I was told I would be given car rental info once we got approval. The dealer in Annapolis had my car for two weeks. I was texted today that I will be responsible for 50% of the parts/labor fee. Estimate to come. . . So, what happened? I was told Hyundai would pay for parts/labor and the rental car. Now I'm paying 50% for an engine problem. FYI: I get regular oil changes.

Update from Jul 27, 2022: The bill was $8,063.38. Goodwill assistance paid $4000. I paid the balance.
