Elantra Sport eating up tires. First set had to be replaced at 26,360 miles 9/21/17. I thought probably because of cheap OEM tires. BUT then I needed to replace the tires again at 46,026 miles 6/1/2020.
This time I took it in for an alignment only to find out there is no way to adjust the alignment on the rear of the Elantra. They didn't see any issues. The car has never been in an accident or hit any curbs, etc.
I ran it by the dealership, no help. They said they could put it up on the alignment rack but would have to charge $109 plus tax for an alignment. I figured it was just aligned and if you can't align the rear what good is that.
The shop that did the alignment said all they could suggest is to rotate the tires every oil change instead of every other.
The dealership did say they would look at it while it was up on a hoist doing an oil change. But they didn't see anything.
I just so happened that a few weeks later I noticed the Elantra rear wasn't level. It slopes to the left, drivers side. Both rear tires are out of alignment but the drivers side is the worst. I attached the pictures with a level on the rear spoiler and rear bumper showing how much it leans to the left. I also put the level on the garage floor to show that the garage floor actually slopes slightly in the opposite direction.
I have since purchased new upgraded shocks and new replacement OEM shocks. I haven't installed them. It is my hope that with those on then the alignment on the rear of the car will be okay.
It's crazy to me there are no alignment adjustments for a car this modern on the rear.
I have sent a letter to Hyundai Customer Care Center back on January 8, 2021 but I have yet to hear from them. I had hopes since this issue began well within the 5 year 60K mile warranty that they would cover it.
I'm hoping replacing the rear shocks and springs will correct the rear alignment issues and have it so our tires last longer than 20K - 26K miles. I'm purchasing 60K to 80K mile tires.
It appears all the OEM shocks were cheaply made. I have received an extended warranty issue for the front. But to my knowledge I don't have an issue with the front but the rear.
My biggest issue is that the rear wheels/tires are out of alignment with no adjustments. I'm hoping replacing the shocks (upgraded) and OEM replacement springs will correct the issue.
