Genesis

  • 51,000 miles
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Genesis. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle failed to stop as the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard. The contact had to pump the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle exhibited the same symptoms as listed in NHTSA campaign number: 13V489000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was taken to a dealer (merced Hyundai, 1620 V St, merced, ca 95340, 209-384-2000) where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall; therefore, the contact should get the vehicle repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.

The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Genesis. While driving various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed, but it required an extended braking distance in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was confirmed that the brakes were soft; however, no further repair diagnostics were provided. The contact was informed of NHTSA campaign number: 13V489000 (service brakes, hydraulic). Harrisonburg Hyundai (2811 S main St, harrisonburg, va) was called and stated that the VIN was excluded from the recall. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 77,086. Consumer stated brake pedal is very soft and must press entirely to the floor to stop vehicle. It occurred very rapidly, no lead up to problem. Dealership drained the brake fluid and reset each vale in the ABS system. This has the brakes working normal again. However, the dealership said this may not be a permanent fix. Updated 10/12/18
