Letter from congressman sarbanes on behalf of constituent re vehicle safety. The consumer stated there was a metal-on-metal sound coming from the vehicle and the steering would bind while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the noise and steering issues were confirmed. The dealer stated the problem was due to a seam failure on the chassis. The steering pump was replaced. However, a month later, the problem returned.

The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Genesis coupe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle became hard to steer as the steering wheel seized. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the mechanic was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 8,500. The current mileage was 9,674. Returned by usps on 11-13-2013. Second attempt on 11-13-2013 failed.
