Friday - whilst driving at 90km the car stalled with no warning. No engine lights showed up and the temp gauge remained normal with no temp variations. Car started fine and was ok to drive home Saturday - car started to make a minor rattle occasionally when accelerating, suddenly a loud rattle/banging noise was heard from the motor and car has been towed to mechanic Monday - mechanic has advised sounds like bearing failure and engine needs to be replaced. Hyundai will not acknowledge the issue unless they strip the motor at a cost of $700-1000 and give no guarantee they will compensate for the problem.

Has anyone experienced similar? I see they have recalled other models of Hyundai & kia for what sounds to be a very similar problem.

Update from Feb 25, 2018: Update: No 3 bearing has collapsed, hyundai are still unsure why this has happened. Hyundai NZ have offered to pay for parts (replace engine short block) however have advised me I am liable for labour, oil and checking of radiator and cylinder head - estimate of $5000. I am not happy with this outcome and have started negotiation process
