I was driving home and slowed to let someone in front of me turn left into a grocery parking lot. The car suddenly started surging mad I could not stop it with the brake pedal all the way to floor. However, I did hit the car in font of me, with no damage to her car. I had popped the front right side of the bumper on my car. So we went on with our business when she found no damage to her vehicle. I had to turn the car off to stop the car from moving. I called the dealer glenn Hyundai and told them of the incident, they in turn told me this would be nearly impossible for this to happen! it did happen!! they called me after receiving the vehicle via tow truck and told me the throttle was dirty and needed to be cleaned. So I told them go ahead and then about half hour later they called and said the car needed a throttle position assembly replaced. They had already charged me for the cleaning of the throttle, and then charged me to replace it also. Doesn't cleaning come with replacing the throttle assembly" I think this should be investigated and to see how many other Hyundai's have had this problem. They supposedly contacted Hyundai corporate usa, however, I have yet to hear anything from Hyundai. I really hope all is safe now???"

Oil leaked from valve cover onto alternator. Engine stalled and left me stranded on rural mountain road. Finally got towed home. Mechanic says it will cost nearly $1000 to replace valve cover gaskets and alternator. Car is 2006 Hyundai Sonata with 3.3L 6cyl engine. I believe that this is the same engine and same problem that prompted the recall on 2007 Hyundai veracruz NHTSA campaign number: 14V415000. The existing recall should be expanded to include more Hyundai vehicle models that exhibit the same problem.

My car is a 2006 Hyundai Sonata and last night my cars' headlights dim or shut off momentarily, the fan speed seems to drop for a second also but never shuts completely off. I noticed last night my tachometer would only go to a 1 at the lowest. It would go higher as I drove but never back down towards a 0 or 1. you could feel the harsh vibration as I sat at a stoplight while it rested at 1. I also noticed that it feels like the trans is slipping or something as I take off or try to turn. This is the first time I have ever experienced this with this car. This is extremely dangerous!! what if the gas pedal sticks or the lights go out while driving"?" I have 2 small children and you bet I would sue or my family would on my behalf if anything happened to us as a result of Hyundai not issuing some kind of recall. Please address this issue asap as to avoid any future problems that could have been corrected by a simple recall.

When accelerating from a stop or slow turn, "check engine" and "ESC off" light come on. The vehicle acts as if it is in neutral, with no gas power or brake control, but the car is running and all other electrical functions are working (windows, radio, etc). It shimmies and shakes. You have to coast to the side of the road and restart numerous times to get it to run properly. The check engine light remains on for several hours and then shuts off. This started about 6 months after I purchased the used car in 2006, and is intermittent but still has the problem. It will act up several times a day for months then nothing. This should be considered a safety issue, having to stop in single lanes with no shoulders, on railroad tracks, or intersections and restart numerous times to get it running again. Took to merced ca Hyundai they replaced tsp wiring, which did not help. Of course it appeared ok as it takes time for the problem to repeat. Have been unable to return to shop, with the inconvenience of having to take time off work, drive 30 miles to the dealer, and pay for car rental. I live in a rural area and bought a fairly new car to be reliable. This was not it.

Heard small knock in engine, told it was standard fuel injector knock. At 43K, my husband driving on pa turnpike -- knock starts pounding. But no check engine light. As he is getting off to a rest area, knock goes crazy, engine starts smoking, and the check engine light comes on. Engine overhauled, not replaced under warranty. Three subsequent related repairs. 2006 Hyundai Sonata.

Good morning! I am having problems with my Sonata and I need assistance and advise. My vehicle has broke down with me on 3 occasions with the same problem. I am concerned because my warranty will be running out at 60,000 miles and I am concerned about my safety. The belt that goes from the A/C to the motor and the alternator continues to fray and burn up in pieces. At this point the car is inoperable. I was told by the Hyundai dealership that they have replaced these belts with chain belts on the new Sonata's because of this problem. Everytime I have had it repaired they told me that it would not happen again and it has happened (3) times. I contacted the Hyundai company last Thursday and no one has contacted me or made an attempt to talk with me. Thank you for your assistance with this matter. Marcia smith

The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. While driving 20 mph, he heard a loud banging noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated that the noise was louder while making a turn with a passenger seated in the rear. The dealer inspected the vehicle on two occasions; the first time they were unable to diagnose the failure and the second time the dealer adjusted the rear suspension. The suspension adjustment failed to solve the failure. As of October 9, 2007, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The failure mileage was 12,000 and the current mileage was 16,997. The dealer stated the front right door lock inoperable, passenger seat area makes a rattling sound, right trunk trim vibrates when vehicle in motion and hears knocking sound in the engine.
