I just took my car into have the ECU replaced under recall/warranty and immediately after there is a ton of play in the steering wheel. My car was fine before the recall work was done. I will be taking it back to Hyundai to see what they say the fix is. I hope I don't have to pay for it.

Avoid the 11 model year! It's cursed, I swear.

Another mechanic mentioned the steering issue about the give from left to right when the car is sitting still. It only started after I had my engine replaced due to the recall. Still need to take it in to be looked at but figure they will say it is a separate issue and charge me.

After the dealership did the recall on my steering wheel i noticed a lot of play in my steering wheel, noise when turning the wheel from side to side, They also said warranty doesn't cover it and there is not a recall. so basically they are telling me either you pay 390.00 or fly solo. My hyundai sonata only have 47,000 miles on it.

I have a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. I took my car into the dealership for a steering recall. I had zero problems with the steering prior to taking it in for the recall.. When I got in my car to leave the dealership I could feel a lot of play in the steering so I went back into the dealership to ask about this and he advised that I needed to replace the coupling which would cost about $320.00. This seem to be a wide spread problem with the 2011 Hyundai why isn't anyone doing anything about this. I am afraid to drive my own car because of the play in the steering.

Took car in for recall on steering, had zero problems with steering. Left the dealer, had play in steering. I notified dealer when I was able to to inform them and I needed to set up an appointment to come back in. When I went back in, dealer stated the coupling needed replaced. I refused to have it done, feeling this was not an issue prior to them "fixing" the recall. Only immediately there after did the steering behave in this manner. I called Hyundai, they stated it is not covered under warranty and would not consider any "good faith" offer.
