Sonata GLS

  • Automatic transmission
  • 94,000 miles

For about a year now, my radio keeps shorting out. I’ll turn my car on, and the radio won’t display at all, no sound. In few days, all is good and yet I never “fixed” anything. This has probably happened at least 4 times in the past year. Currently it has been off for 3 days now. It seems to happen when my right brake light shorts out as well. I finally fixed that by putting a different bulb back there so it wouldn’t get so hot. From what Hyundai has told me in the past, I could possibly have a bad fuse box and that will cost me a lot of $$ to replace. The quick fix was taping up my fuse box in case there was a short. Well here we go again, no radio. Very frustrating as I need my Bluetooth and obviously don’t have if no radio. Any suggestions before I Google it again?

Sonata 4 cyl

The first week I had the car the radio would turn on, buzz and go out. After a few seconds in most days it would turn back on. The radio was replaced twice under warranty. After the second replacement the problem has only returned once.

Sonata GLS 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 71,000 miles

I purchased my 2012 Sonata in December 2012 with 24,000 miles on it ..Two weeks after my radio made a weird sound and then turned off. I turned my car off and on and it came back on. Several months later it happened again. It turned off when I turned my car on and was off all week until I was able to take it in to the dealer on Saturday. They told me nothing was found wrong but, my radio was back on.

So a few months went by again and it happened again but, the radio came back on before I took in but still kept my appointment. Again, I was told no electrical problems were found. A few weeks to months went by again it happened on and off. I took it back to the dealer and it returned back on. So, after this it did happen again but my warranty expired at about 60,000 miles or so and they wouldn’t look at it without me paying. So, I filed a complaint with Hyundai and there reply was they would be glad to fix it and replace if needed but I had to pay for it. I was furious and thought because I had to bring it in so many times before my warranty expired they would cover it. It still happens frequently and just three weeks ago again after I had to replace my starter it happened again and is still currently off as of today while I file this complaint.

I work a lot and don’t really want to have to keep visiting the dealership. I’m very dissatisfied. Especially, since I had to replace the battery a few months ago and just last month I had to replace the starter. I am going to trade it in when I get a chance and purchase something else. I also know several people who has the same car and the same problem with the radio but not as frequent as mines. I even Googled and went on Youtube and found others had the same problem.
