I don't know why the check engine light came on until after dealer inspects the car. I've had to wait =4 weeks= for an appointment. Engine knock is noticeable. Car decelerated on the freeway during moderate traffic. It's not driveable, so there's no need to have it towed it to the dealer. : (

2012 Sonata 2.0t are really bad cars. Mine had the engine replaced and now I'm having all kind of problems. Had the car in the dealer a couple of times and now they say that it is the engine harness. They want to charge me $3000.00 in repair for that and don't warranty that it will be ok. A really pain in the ass car and very dangerous to be on the road.

On Friday May 19th while heading home for work, I notice the check engine light had came on. No noise as of, yet just the light. I made it home safely and got some rest because I work over night. Upon waking up we take the car to closest auto part store with a code reader to try to find out what made the light come on and stay on. The person came out to check the codes and they were C1616 and P0014(4times). We began to look into them and find one was for the abs system and on was for the a crank something something.

We took a trip 25 mins away to the hair stylist. We were there for like 3 hours. Upon leaving the light was still on. Like 15mins into the way back home the car began to make all kinds of noises, sounded like a man was beating to get from under the hood. We pull over right then, shut it of and called AAA. They came, towed the car to the house.

The next day I looked up Hyundai recalls for 2012 Sonata. I saw they had recalled 570,000 already. So I called Hyundai North America. I told the rep who was really nice my issues. She asked for the vin, I gave it to her. She then come back and says its 5 recalls on that car, the major ones the engine itself.

I told them I had called the dealer and they wanted me to pay $79.00 to tell me whats wrong. AAA again towed my car to the dealer. Upon arriving at the dealer I walk to the service department and noticed upwards of 10 crate engines new sitting there. I told the service desk clerk my issues and showed him the recall codes and case number. Then he said you see these boxes these are all replacement engines for people with the same problem as you... rental car pick up on Monday Hyundai footing the bill.

MY CAR HAS DONE THIS OFF AND ON IN THE LAST YEAR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON FOR A WHILE AND THERE IS SOME HARD SHIFTING. IT WILL STAY ON FOR A WHILE THEN GO OFF. IT WILL CORRECT ITSELF FOR A MINUTE. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN FOR SEVERAL RECALLS IN THE LAST YEAR AND THEY WERE TOLD THE LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF. I WAS TOLD THEY DIDN'T SEE A PROBLEM. IF IT COMES ON AGAIN BRING IT IN AND PAY TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED.

I can't believe that a brand new car eight months old has to have a brand new transmission put in. Makes me think I bought a lemon. And what will happen if the transmission goes out again if I keep it for a few years. When I bought it the rear bumper left side didn't seem to fit tight. I brought it to the salesman's attention. He told me it just looks that way. The bumper sticks out more after hitting any bumps or potholes in the road. When I complained when I took the car in for an oil change I was told to take it to a body shop. There isn't a mark on the car. I didn't do anything I bought it that way.
