engine blew up engine blew up

Purchased a 2013 Hyundai Sonata for my 16 year old daughter for her birthday. This car was a one-owner, always serviced at the Hyundai dealer, and had only 76,000 miles. The car's oil was always changed ever 3-4 thousand miles along with all recommended service per Hyundai. She had this car only a couple months, then while driving home from school all the dash lights lit up like a Christmas tree and the car shut down. Real bad burning smell, and it would not even turn over.

I had the car towed to the nearest Hyundai dealer. A week later got the call nobody wants to hear, yes... the engine blew. I provided all the car fax information to the dealer showing proper maintenance being performed on the car. Service manager said the oil was clean and fresh. He submitted the paperwork to Hyundai. 10 days later I got the call the engine would be replaced at no cost to me. Our Hyundai dealer told me it would take 4-6 weeks. The dealership provided a rental vehicle while the repairs were being completed.

Exactly 5 weeks later we got the call our Sonata was ready for pick up. After 7 weeks from start to finish we had the Sonata back. I must give Hyundai credit for providing proper customer service. We were told that the new engine would be once again covered to 120,000 miles. However said, they have replaced quite a few Sonata engines and have yet to have one return. I assume they have corrected the issues that caused the recall. For anyone that is faced with this issue with their Sonata, I hop you get the same outcome. I was told by the service Manager, keep service records giving the company nothing to question. Good luck.

Engine died while driving. Was lucky enough to be able to get to shoulder without being hit. Our mechanic told us that engine blew and is covered under the Hyundai warranty since we are the original owner, under 10 years and 100,000 miles. Vehicle sat at the dealership for 30 days before anyone would verify that, yes the engine is a piece of junk and covered under the warranty. Replacement engine ordered but have no idea when the vehicle will be repaired Dealer said they have 35 vehicles on the lot with the same issue!! In the meantime I have had to rent a vehicle and no confirmation from dealer or Hyundai that the rental is going to be covered. Told us to submit the bill once the vehicle is repaired. Dealer says Hyundai will reimburse for rental but Hyundai corporate says no guarantee they will pay. Everything is on a case by case situation. There should be a class action lawsuit against Hyundai.

VERY Disappointed in Hyndai engineering, I expected Hyndai to make one of the most reliable and dependable cars in the market. I was planning on buying a Santa Fe for family road trips but now I wouldn't feel comfortable and always worried the car would leave us stranded somewhere. Like I said, disappointed, expected such more from Hyndai..

Sonata ES 2.4L

Car stalled several times on freeway when RPM reached above 4k. The mechanic I spoke with stated the car had an error code of P0014 which always ended with engine failure. I commute quite a long distance and insured the maintenance was regularly performed. Very disappointed with Hyundai and their product as my previous two automobiles (Dodge and BMW) each lasted a minimum of 250k miles.

Update from Oct 8, 2018: Hyundai honored the recall and replaced the engine

Now as I was driving my daughter to Orlando for brain surgery the engine blew up. We waited 3 hour for Hyundai road side assistance to arrive in 102 degree heat, no shade and a daughter laying in the back seat because she can't sit or stand. We also had to call a taxi van to transport my daughter to meet me at the dealership so we could get on with our journey. By the way, I had to pay to rent a car.
