Sonata Hybrid 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 78,000 miles

I have a Sonata Hybrid that gave us no warning of this problem. I was driving through a parking lot, running on electric power when the siren went off and got a message of Hybrid System Failure. I pulled over and waited a few minutes with power off. I tried to restart after a while and got the same alarm immediately. The dealer received the car on a flatbed, looked at it and announced the gasoline engine had failed and had seized up. All the oil changes had been made on the vehicle. The diagnostic was that the electric system was attempting to charge by running the gasoline engine, the I4 2.4L Theta II and, unable to turn it, sounded the alarm. This car is five years old and about 78000 miles, the repair bill estimate is $5800.00, which includes 18.0 hours of labor for the engine change.

Dealer Elyria Hyundai says needs a new battery pack and wants $8000 to fix it. Battery pack was replaced 2 years ago by 2nd owner less that 10000 miles ago. Seems like this dealer is either a crook or has no clue how to fix this or both. The car is unusable and has only 49000 miles on it. POS !!

Sonata Hybrid hybrid

  • CVT transmission
  • 96,000 miles

Do not get a hybrid. There were more bells and warnings, and the dash was lit up like a Christmas tree. It needed a hydraulic tower which cost $1600. The mechanic said that was the first code. I spent $900 2 months ago to get the airflap code resed so it could get inspected. I have had it with this car.

Sonata Hybrid

  • Automatic transmission
  • 62,000 miles

My 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid has a warning signal "Hybrid Safety Warning Do Not Drive". This has happened three times. I was driving the car in freezing temps. and it happens when I pull in to park the car after driving for less than 20 to 30 minutes. The car sounds an alarm and the message comes up on the dash above the steering wheel. The car gets stuck in park. I turn it off and restart it. It has finally stopped working completely. I have filed a case with Hyundai. It is going to dealership today. This vehicle has not run 100 percent since the day I purchased.

safety stop and do not drive

My 2012 sonata hybrid has done it 3 times. 1st time the car got locked, it did not turn back on and I had to get it towed to the dealer. They said they couldn't find anything and the car turn on just fine with them. 2nd time I turn the car off waited a few minutes and turn it back on and no problem. But this morning the car did it again, the car was cool and had only driven it for 5 minutes. The common factor here, it happens when I place it in P. This morning I took a picture of the warning signal and drove it to the dealer and they said they cannot find the trouble code. It seems harmful, I hope they find the problem and fix it before something bad happens.
