Sonata Plug-in Hybrid Limited Hybrid/Plugin

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

Well, similar to a previous post, we have seen the dealer try to rectify the problem with electronic system reset, reprogramming, etc.

None of that worked. it was to the point where we were afraid to get into traffic because we never knew how the car would behave. would it shift good, or would it bog down and stutter?

So they took the car in and let us know that they were going to replace the transmission!?

The car is only 2 years old. serious concerns that this will pop up again in 2 more years, or less. (hopefully, unless they stand behind this thing after the initial warranty is up).

First year problems I guess.

Sonata Plug-in Hybrid Limited

  • Automatic transmission
  • 46,000 miles

The car started shifting roughly at about 36,000 miles and then started banging into second gear when the car started off when cold. It also shifted roughly when cold. If you eased into accelerating you could potentially get it to not make the problem. Took it to the dealer who reset the electronics but did not solve the issue. Dealer contacted Hyundai engineering who indicated that the entire electronic transmission needed to be replaced. All work being taken care of under both new car and power train warranty. They also rented me a car. A bit of a major problem but at least its being taken care of under warranty - I do worry that the new transmission may have the same issues in the future.
