to whom it may concern, I have a 2017 Hyundai Tucson that has really bad and scary engine and transmission issues, this car has had a recall to fix constant bucking of the engine at slow speeds and even after the recall it went right back to the same behavior and has now developed slow acceleration and has even attempted to stall on the highway during lane changes, it is the only car I have and I have had really difficult times with it and the dealership has once again told me that they have no loaners available and that they likely will need a few days to diagnose the issues if any. the latest problem is a rapid rpm acceleration that despite the speed being under 45 it causes a screen to pop up that states (transmission temp high stop safely) flooded at random by another message saying( a condition with your engine control system has been detected and a full system check is recommended at your convenience) along with that, the air conditioner shuts off at random and fills the car with humid smelly air. they refuse to do anything @ the dealership except give excuses as these warnings and car behaviors come and go as they please and without the evidence they can't fix what is not visibly broken. as a struggling American I can't receive the treatment other makers give their customers and Hyundai has turned their back on American import buyers, and until someone dies this will not become a recall or a problem for them, so with that said, I am hoping that nhtsa can look into these issues as they are scattered throughout many forums and if something happens to me with this car that I am afraid of driving without a choice as I am a contractor for the ny tri state area, I now have this letter as proof of my complaint. ps, this car is readily available to be driven by any of your investigators if you desire to look further into this. I hope this letter can save some poor college kid or family from injury or the dangers of this car

I have had an ongoing issue with my 2017 Hyundai Tucson since May 17, 2021. Like many other owners, I have recently learned about the recall on engines for the 2017 Hyundai Tucson. In the information with the announcement of the recall, the article stated, -€œThe issue has caused at least 18 fires, but no injuries, according to documents from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration-€. I wanted to know if my vehicle was one of these 18 fires" If it was, I would like to know that I will be covered under this recall, and the engine in my vehicle will be replaced. I can begin to be reimbursed for the $1,000s of car rentals that I was told would be reimbursed before my warranty claim was denied. If it is not one of those 18 cars? Why not? I will give more information below on what happened to me and my car. Through further research, Attachment A on the NHTSA website states that -€œAs of the date of this filing, Hyundai is aware of 45 fires related to the recall condition-€. Once again, I ask if my vehicle is on this list" If not- why was it not after the engine fire and the below happenings occurred to me in May 2021. Happenings On May 17, 2021, I was driving home from work on Interstate 195 in New Jersey. My check engine light came on the previous week, and I immediately brought my car into an auto body to receive an oil change and a 25 point maintenance inspection. But, unfortunately, the check engine light went off. While traveling on the freeway at approximately 65 - 70 miles per hour, I could feel my acceleration beginning to get slower and slower and harder to use. I was pressing entirely on the accelerator, and the car continued to go slower Suddenly, the acceleration stopped completely, and all the lights on the dashboard went on. I noticed smoke started to appear from under the hood and from the tail of the vehicle. After nearly being hit by another car, I was barely able to get into the shoulder. I just so happened to break down on the part

2017 Tucson Limited 1.6L power train malfunction due to vehicle-€™s dual clutch transmission. While accelerating, the vehicle frequently pauses, best described as a frozen hesitation of failed movement. During this hesitation, the vehicle-€™s RPMs will be very high. After approximately 3-6 seconds, the vehicle begins to move rapidly in a jerking motion, often with enough torque to push the driver-€™s back to the seat. This malfunction is extremely unsafe and scary, especially when it occurs while driving through intersections and when merging with traffic. The manufacturer has said this issue is only related to a computer update. There are no warning lights or alarms when this malfunction occurs. Recently, the check engine light turned on and now has a transmission error code: unable to engage first gear. This malfunction has occurred since I bought the new vehicle. For additional context, I change the oil every 4,000 - 5,000 miles, along with all filters and other fluids when recommended, and use quality gas. Routine maintenance has been performed by an independent repair facility. Services performed are protected by federal law from manufacturer implying or denying warranty service because of this (Magnussen-Moss Act, Title 15, Chapter 50, Section 2301-3312).

EcoShift Dual Clutch Transmission does not always engage after full stop and may not engage at low speeds (4-6 mph). The vehicle to not always move when the accelerator pedal is pressed and may sputter until it finally engages but safety is jeopardized at intersections/stoplights where engine was asked to supply power and cuts out creating an otherwise unsafe scenario with oncoming traffic. This has happened on several occasions over the past year and has been documented in online forums. It was a known recall item on the previous year vehicle and was flagged by the NHSTA. Problem was not confirmed yet, awaiting appointment, but when we purchased the vehicle we were told it was normal for dual-clutch to behave this way. Issues are ongoing and re-occur randomly without warning.

Hello. I recently took my car to the authorized mechanic and had them check on an issue I am experiencing. For some reason, my car frequently hesitates when I go from a complete stop/slow roll to accelerate. For example, if I am stopped waiting to turn, often when I push the gas to accelerate, the car will begin to accelerate and then basically stop. When this has happened, I've pushed my foot down to the floor on the pedal before to make it go and it refused to go for about 20 or so seconds. Additionally, if I am in slow moving traffic and traffic begins to speed up, my car will hesitate to go forward when I try to accelerate. This is a huge safety concern. The mechanic was not able to replicate this issue, but it happens every day or every other day. It makes me scared to drive because it's almost caused accidents. I read I'm not the only one with this issue and honestly, it's a miracle no one has died yet as a result of this faulty issue.

Dangerous acceleration issues... my car hesitates for almost 10 seconds when accelerating from a complete stop, at a stop light or turning into oncoming traffic and sometimes changing lanes at low speeds. This has caused near accidents on several occasions. I have even experienced the vehicle completely shutting off while idling and moving at low speeds in heavy traffic or going thru a drive thru restaurant. The Drive Clute Transmission (DCT) description that came with my vehicle when I purchased it mentioned "a direct driving feeling which may fee different"... "more noticeable when starting from a stop or low vehicle speed"... what it failed to mention is that the car would delay or hesitate for near 10 seconds then leap forward or even completely shut off putting my safety and the safety of other drivers at risk for injury or worse fatality. The DCT is a major safety concern and a common reported issue. Why aren'tyou doing anything to help consumers" I'm tired of dealership mechanics stating there's nothing they can do to fix the issue because Hyundai hasn't issued any recalls. The 2016 model had a recall for this same issue. I am a single mother and veteran and I need to have a safe running vehicle. Hyundai boasts the best warranty available and I even purchased an extended at the time of purchase so why can't Hyundai/dealership do anything to fix this" This has been an occasional issue since around 30k miles but had gotten more frequent and worse. I first made an appointment for the issue in 12/5/2020 at about 51k miles.

When accelerating from a stopped position, the car will sometimes not move forward or will sometimes surge forward at high speed or will at other times move forward but will do so in a jerky uncontrolled manner. Been trying to get the dealer to fix this but I'm told this condition is normal. There's no way this is normal! When pulling onto a busy highway I never know if the car will respond to acceleration of not move for several seconds. This car is dangerous and I feel that it's only a matter of time that I will be in an accident because of this condition.

The vehicle would start to move and then frequently stall (abruptly lose power) when accelerating to go from a stop. It was especially dangerous when making a left turn, as it would stall in the path of oncoming vehicles. It was also a serious safety problem when the car behind mine would accelerate to go, after it appeared I was moving, and would then need to take evasive action to not rear-end my car as it stalled momentarily. After stalling, the vehicle would either lunge forward suddenly, or I would have to release and quickly reapply the accelerator. I also experienced three occasions when the car would move forward while it was in reverse gear. Both of those issues also created some very scary close calls.

Hyundai Tucson 2.0L (nu gdi) is leaking engine oil between engine and transmision. Vehicle previously had the same condition and it was sent to dealership around November 2019, they removed the transmission and installed a new crankshaft oil seal. Previous oil change maintentance was done by a Hyundai dealer and they didn't notify the issue. Now when I checked the engine and touched the area, I got engine oil. Now I will check how I can send the car to the dealership because I'm having issues with the warranty of the car because if I go to another Hyundai dealership and they check that the car wasn't bought with them, they gime me a extremelly long date to check the car after that they won't fix. Also they don't like to get warranty claims or recalls during weekends. And to make matters worse the dealer where I bought it brand new and completed the warranty claim (crankshaft seal) has changed the ownership and they say that the car records doesn't appear in their systems. I would never buy another car from this company again.

I was driving on a city street. My vehicle started making a loud noise, and in the middle of the intersection that included a freeway exit, I heard a clank and the car would no longer move forward. I checked to make sure I was in gear, but the engine raced, and the car would not move. I was partially in the lane of traffic. This was especially dangerous, as I was in the path of cars coming off the freeway ramp. (having it disengage while driving would be a safety issue anywhere.) those cars had limited sight distance, and had to swerve to miss my vehicle. I had the car towed to a repair shop. I was initially told that the dual clutch had disengaged and failed while I was driving. During the repair process, the mechanic also found the transmission and flywheel to be damaged or faulty. The mechanic noted that he thought, because of the recent model year, that the dual clutch assembly would be a special order part, but was told that had at least ten in stock because the original part was poorly designed and manufactured. The replacement part had been redesigned.

My 2017 Hyundai Tucson consumes more than 3 quarts of oil between filter changes. I noticed the oil consumption around 36K miles. I have taken the car to southtown Hyundai (riverdale, ga) many times for this issue. The dealer did 3 oil consumption test, all failed. I was told nothing can be done at the moment. I even reached out to corporate, with no response back. The vehicle currently has 75K miles on the engine. Please help.

I have done a significant amount of research and found that the Hyundai Tucson has three potential problems that cause the issues with the stalling/low power on takeoff. I believe that part of it might be the transmission not engaging properly in 1st gear and that should be something they can fix with a computer update. The second from what I've read is that the fuel tank has a material flaking off on the inside of the fuel tank causing the fuel filter to be damaged/clogged. The third and from what I have read, the reason some of the Tucsons fail is a bad crank shaft. My guess is that the bad crank shaft happens over time and that the problems start with the fuel clogs. The fuel system needs to be examined to ensure that the "flaking off" material defect inside the tank is not the cause of the fuel filter being clogged and eventually the car fails. The loss of power is scary and dangerous and must be resolved. Wouldn't it be cheaper if Hyundai replaced all the fuel tanks on the cars with one that doesn't have a defective material coated on the inside of them rather than replace motors and keep doing work on them over and over and over?

When on any hill (reversing or forward), in heavy bumper to bumper traffic, and in some intermittent situations, the vehicle experiences a loss of power. The scariest part of this is that the car jolts quickly once it finally "finds a gear" and decides to go. When my car dies because it can't deal with slower bumper to bumper traffic, there's a problem! when I'm trying to backup on a hill and there's an object behind me and I nearly hit it because I can't get the car to go, it's a problem. It's a manufacturers problem that you and they keep ignoring! just like the fires that they ignored for years. The dealerships report to hundreds of customers that this is normal. It is not normal. From what I have found in my research, it's caused by a couple of things. The fuel filter is constantly dirty from whatever fuel tank coating Hyundai used on the inside of the fuel tank that is flaking off. The second reason is a problem with the dct. It should be engaging the 1st gear and it's not. It should be something as simple as an update with the computer systems but Hyundai doesn't care about keeping their customers safe. It's ridiculous that hundreds and thousands of people complain about these issues and nothing is done. Not an investigation until they get enough and someone pays a lawyer to do it.because this happens all the time, I am putting the estimated date of purchase like other customers have done on here.

Hyundai Tucson 1.6L turbo engine burns oil internally before 3,000 mile oil exchange. Started around 75K miles. The truck hesitates and wants to stall. I have to add quart of oil every 2K miles before oil exchange. There is no visible oil leaks. Ignition coil error code diagnostics point to mis-firing of cylinder 2. replaced spark plugs and switch known good ignition coil but same error code and engine light. This truck make, year and model is well known at oil exchange service centers for running low on oil because it burns oil unknowingly to it's vehicle owners.
