My 2017 Tucson provided ample sound warning and brake assistance to help prevent even a bad driver avoid hitting another vehicle or pedestrian. However, in my 2020 Tucson, everyone from my dealership service manager, to the East Coast service consultant, to the US Hyundai office confirmed the reduced sensitivity of the FCA (Front Collision Avoidance) system as a result of customer complaints that the system was bothersome.

Hyundai's response to those complaints was to desensitize the FCA so the sound warning goes off at approximately 7 car lengths at 25 mph, which is just enough time to swerve to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of you. If you're not paying attention 100%, you cannot avoid the collision. My dealer service manager did tell me that, and while I was appalled to hear it, it is absolutely correct. I tested my car and I tested another new 2020 Tucson from my dealer and both worked exactly the same way.

So, rather than tell their customers who were bothered by the system's sensitivity to turn off the FCA system or reduce the sensitivity (there were, and are, 3 levels), Hyundai decided to reduce the sensitivity 3 times from 2018 through 2020! That logic, to endanger Hyundai drivers and all the vehicles and pedestrians in front of those drivers, is beyond my comprehension.

The FCA system does not work as described in my owner's manual, nor as described by my salesman.
