problem #2

Jan 042016

Veloster 1.6L 4-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 36,700 miles

Dealer says they can't replicate the problem. Vehicle has intermittent problems starting. When turning key in ignition, usually in colder weather in the mornings, vehicle will not start. There is just a 1-click sound per ignition cycle, but no ignition occurs. Just a click.

All lights come on dash, radio turns on, etc. Replaced battery due to failed battery test, but this did not fix the starter problem. I believe the starter assembly, specifically solenoid, is starting to fail but the dealer has been very unhelpful. I drive a lot for work, especially to remote areas, and I'm going to get stranded eventually without any cell service. Nice.

Also filed a complaint with NHTSA.

problem #1

Jan 262014

Veloster base trim 1.6L

  • Manual transmission
  • 55,029 miles

Starter fails to engage in start sequence. Only thing that happens is a "click" sound when turning key to start position. Have full power to all gauges, lights etc but car does not turn over to start. Tried jumping battery but no change in problem. Battery tests OK.

Update from Jan 29, 2014: Filed complaint with NHTSA today as well
