Veloster Turbo Turbo 1.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 81,000 miles

Tried to post this issue, but not sure if it was posted at the right place.

The 2013 Veloster Turbo eats tires like nothing.

Here is the issue in some details:

2018 spring- Vehicle bought with 45k, original wheels and "Westlake' tires.

2018 -summer- The car vibrates and makes a lot of noise, coming from the wheels/tires/suspension. Also gives a very rough ride

2018- Fall - New set of wheels and tires bought, after discovering bent/out of shape wheels. Alignment balancing done.

2019- Early spring - Noticing that the new tires (Falken Z 225/40/R18) are getting louder and shows uneven wear. (front tires are unusually wearing out, despite commuter driving on highways (95% highway+5% city driving)

Taken to a shop , alignment/balancing done again. Tires rotated. Tires are louder after rotation.

2019- Summer , road noise is unbearable, this car has issues going over bumps and cracks, The same road inperfections are barely noticable in a 2015 Honda Fit and my parent's 2010 Hyundai Accent. Also, the same road driven in a 2018 Mustang with no noticable road noise or bumpiness. These road inperfections are not extreme but the Veloster makes them to be.

2019 Summer (cont). Front struts replaced, ball joints checked/lubricated. The new struts make no difference in ride quality, the service was recommended though (at 70,000 miles)

2019 Fall - New tires and wheels purchased. 17 inch (downsized) with 225/25/R17. Hoping the extra sidewall on the tire dampens the rough ride. Balancing/alignment done again. At this point I spent over $3500 on just wheels and tires / suspension service on this car, with no significant change in ride quality and no change in wearing down the tires (see cont)

2020- Spring The car was only driven a few times a week during 2019-2020 winter, the ride was extremely harsh in cold temperatures with all season tires, also the traction is nothing to brag about, with the rear end gets loose on snow-powdered roads.

2020-Summer, Taken to the mechanic. The Front intermediate Axle shaft replaced. The car was vibrating and shaking and making a howling noise ($680)

2020 - Summer. The wheels are being rotated (85,000 miles), the car now makes a horrendous noise of something similar to a jet engine taking off recorded on tape and looped. According to the dealer, it's the tires. The tires do not show significant wear, but who am I to say what's wrong with it.

So, in a nutshell, between 2018-2020, the car went through 3 sets of wheels and tires. I'd say 2 of the original wheels were busted, the tires were semi-worn. 2nd set of 18" wheels and tires busted, front tires were bald or cupped, not sure how to describe. 3rd set of tires (on a 17" wheels) look ok, but make a horrible noise now.

2020- Fall. My wife purchased another car and she lets me borrow hers to commute, The Veloster Turbo is parked in the garage, indefinitely. I have never owned a car like this, and I owed cars since 1992.

Veloster Remix 1.6L

  • Manual transmission
  • 50,331 miles

I bought this car second hand back in August of 2018. It had 79,000 on it and in seemingly perfect condition. Not to mention a 7 year Hyundai factory warranty with a year and a half left, so I thought it was a great deal. After driving for a couple of weeks I noticed that it was very hard to keep straight after someone mentioned I seemed to be all over the road. After that I started to notice it more. At 107,000 the front passenger tire blew out, with still 2/16 left. It had worn on the inside like it was sitting on a 45 degree angle. I've never seen anything like it. This was also after a wheel alignment.. Since I've had the rack and pinion changed under warranty, steering shaft and yet another wheel alignment. My new Bridgestone potenza sport tires are actually getting hot on the inside but when sitting still, the car sits perfectly fine. Apparently nothing is wrong with the car. Currently 108,200 and sitting in my yard collecting dust. Thanks Hyundai. I love the new veloster N, but if it came down to it, and a Hyundai was the last vehicle on earth, I'd take a horse instead. You folks make dumpster trash.

Veloster Remix 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

I own a 2013 Hyundai Veloster Remix. I was so stoked when I bought this car brand new of the lot. It was my first new car purchase and car I picked out because I wanted, not because I needed. I love this car. From the features to style and the performance isn't that bad either but what is bad is the suspension system in these cars. And, not just the Remix editions, all of them from the sounds of it; especially in the rear end. These automobiles have a problem with cupping tires and it will appear before the first tire rotation on brand new tires.

What's the big deal about cupping? Nothing, if you want your car to sound look there's a helicopter right on top of you and following you everywhere.

People seem to have an idea of the problem but because of the design of the car there is literally nothing Hyundai can do outside of having a major recall and that would cost too much money, so that's out of the question, we consumers will just have to deal.

This is my second Hyundai, my first was a used car with constant Electronic Power Steering issues. I loved this car when I first bought it but ever since my first new tire purchase this car has been nothing but expensive tires. I will for one swear off Hyundai's from this day forward.

Since Hyundai doesn't care about it's customers enough to fix this obvious issue with there Veloster then I don't care enough to return as a customer.

Good luck with your Car Complaints! ~G
