Before we knew there was a TBS on this part in our car, we took our car to an Oil Lube business, and they either mishandled the very delicate Oil Filter Assembly Tip, or accidentally damaged it in the process unknowingly. After we get our oil/ filter changed, we left the business, and about 3 to 4 miles down the road our engine quit. We had it towed to Infiniti and they said the tip to this Oil Filter Assembly was missing. And then they proceeded to tell us they couldn't find the piece anywhere in the oil pan. The engine was completely ruined and must be replaced. Estimated cost is over $21,000.
Infiniti wants to blame the Oil Lube business which seems natural. Until the Oil Lube business shows us a video of our Oil Change. It is inconclusive as to whether or not they broke it. So this business's opinion is it does not show them breaking it. BUT, it does show their mechanic holding the part incorrectly from the shaft end, probably squeezing the delicate part. In most likely damaging it in the process.
Also, this Oil Lube business has also come across a TBS on this issue and thinks that Infiniti owns this problem. We think so also. Infiniti after 3 weeks said they will NOT cover this under their warranty, When clearly they own HALF of this problem. They allowed a part that is known to break a lot, into an engine that has a very high probability of breaking during the first oil change or any after that. If it does break, or get damaged, there is a high potential for it to break apart inside the engine, rendering it obsolete, and ruining your day, with a potential total loss of your car due to the expensive engine.
NOW, these two companies are pointing fingers at each other while we await our fate. IF anything, Infiniti should have supplied all of its 2016-2017 Q50,Q60, and QX30 owners/leasers with this engine trim, the full TBS, so that if we elected to go somewhere else for our oil change, we would have had a warning to give the tech this information. Also, this is a grave potential danger. If a person loses their engine on the road or highway, it could spell for a life threatening disaster. Anytime you create a hazard on a road like that, you have the potential to cause an accident as safety is degraded.
Also, last but not least, this engine is actually a MERCEDES BENZ Engine. I guess Infinity either bought technology patent, or just outright bought the engines from MB. This oil filter system is being used as far as I know in the 2016 C300 and C350. I have included pictures of our broken part next to one that is intact. I have also included the TSB.
