Cherokee Limited 2.4L Kl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 76,000 miles

The severity of this problem is 100%. There was no option but to pay and get it fixed. replaced thermostat with MotoRad integrated housing thermostat. Continued use would blow the head gasket among so many more problems. The replacement cost 47.00 and 100.00 for labor. I’m on a social security. It cost 1/4 of my monthly income and I had no transportation till it was fixed. Towing it multiple times also cost me

Cherokee Latitude 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 16,000 miles

My engine light kept coming on. It triggered a code that the thermostat failed. The engine temperature was not reaching normal operating temperature. I only have 16,000 miles on vehicle. When I called local dealership for service, I was told it would cost $150 to just have it diagnosed and maybe they would find the problem. When I called Jeep for assistance I was told I must take it to dealership and they might pay for some of cost for repair. The dealership said it would cost about $600 for repair.

So I took my Jeep to local mechanic who diagnosed and fixed it for about $200. He changed out the thermostat, did an inspection and changed oil costing a total of $312. This is the first vehicle I own that thermostat goes out. I guess it’s better than GM with water pumps and engines needing replacement on new vehicles. My gripe is that Jeep, seeing how little mileage I had, should have said take it to the dealership and have it repaired at no cost. It’s obvious the thermostat was defective through no fault of mine. I say treat a customer right and they will always return!

I think over $500 in labor was a bit excessive for a thermostat replacement. I’ll probably never buy another Jeep

Initially, paid $75 for software update and told engine light would probably come back on...and it did 3 days later.

New thermostat only $60.10 but labor was $398.00

So, I have spent over $600 on a new thermostat on a 3 year old vehicle.

I do not buy extended warranties, Jeep should build a vehicle to last longer than 3 years and 55,000 miles.

Since this is a very common issue, why isn’t there a recall?
