rear window shattered while heating

I started the car using remote start to warm it up, and the car ran for no more than 10 minutes. I put my bag in the car, shut the door and BAM!! The glass just exploded! It was completely shattered on the side first and it looked like someone punched it out from the inside. When picking up the shards, the edges where the heating element begins is just burnt! It had been raining so the glass was wet and clearly, the rear defrost is way too hot! It only comes on if the temperature is at a certain point. It is insane and there needs to be a recall. I've read multiple reports about this happening in Jeeps as well as Ford. There was even a news story about it. Dealerships refuse to pay for it and it's costing me nearly $500 to replace it! I definitely will never use the remote start again.
