Commander 4WD 6-cyl

  • 64,000 miles
This problem happens year round. Once you put the vehicle into drive, all of the shift lights "prnd" light up and the vehicle won't accelerate. If you are already driving down the road/ freeway, it will randomly light up and stop accelerating. When it randomly occurs, it happens with no warning, and you have to attempt to pull the vehicle over to the side of road, put it into neutral or park or restart the vehicle, and attempt it again. The check engine light will come on and the problem will happen repeatedly over a week period, then the problem will stop for a week or two and then resurface at the worst time- for example an intersection, an on-ramp, a busy street, and it has presented huge safety issues for me and my family. Does it take someone dying for this to get recalled? I have read forum after forum of the same issue amongst consumers with my exact make, model, and year (and earlier models) and yet, when I called Jeep, they say they have never heard of it, there is no recall, and I've been turned away.

I purchased a 2006 Jeep Commander 5.7 L hemi in may of 2009 with 46K miles.shortly after the power steering pump went out, I had it replaced.then the car started to stall pretty much everyday and I took to the dealer and was told it needed a new battery. Two days later the car stalled again on the interstate and this time the dealer told me that I needed a new ignition switch and the problem will be fixed. This reduce the amount of stalls and it will happen about twice a month. Then I was driving with my son in the 3rd row seat and I cut off by another car and had to slam on my brakes the belt buckle broke off and my son end up on the floor. In July 2010 I was driving at about 65 mph and all of the sudden all the lights started to flash and the dash board lit up and engine stalled, I lost the power steering, accelerator become very loose and stuck to the floor, brakes did not work 'I mput the car in neutral and used the emergency brakes to stop. There is smoke coming out of the hood so I got out of the car and called a tow truck. At the dealer I was told that there was a complete engine failure and that I needed a new engine. The car is out of warranty and the cost will be 8K to fix.

I own a 2006 Jeep Commander sport. It has stalled on me approximately 4 times. Most recently today it stalled after backing out of my driveway into the street. I have had it in for service in which I believe the map sensor was replaced. This did not fix the issue. I have read numerous issues with this by other Commander owners and thought I would file a incident report as well.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving at any speed, the vehicle stalls in the middle of the road. The steering wheel locks up and the power steering fails. The contact stated that the steering becomes very difficult and would not move at all on occasion. The failure has been occurring since the vehicle was purchased in 2006. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer numerous times, but they could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle is currently at the dealer and they will replace the egr valve to see if this will correct the failure. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 50,000.

Reference complaints 10244597, 10247128. Today, driving in the rain, lights dimmed and car hesitated, eventually stalling while in motion. While we were at a stop, the car again stalled and took several tries to restart. I no longer drive with the children in the car, and have not since the previous incident at 61K. I have tried contacting Jeep through my dealer, with no response. Today I sent an email via their website, however, I am not hopeful of any response. This will be the final time I will file a complaint, as I have called the bank and told them to come and get the car. I can only hope that the person who considers purchasing my car, as I am sure another unscrupulous salesman will put the car up for sale, does his or her research and finds the complaints I have filed here and with the pa attorney general's office.

06' Jeep Commander stalls when completely stopped, when making uturns, and two times when driving at approximately 25-30mph. I have had this complaint for quite sometime and have taken it to the dealership twice, with them brushing it off as if nothing is wrong with the vehicle. If this is not fixed peoples lives on in danger not only the passengers in the vehicles, but surrounding motorist.

There is a 4/07 NHTSA investigation into 2006-7 Jeep Commanders' intermittent and persistent engine stalling problems - supposedly in response to 76 complaints. NHTSA really needs to read its own complaints about this problem, which can be found not only in the Commander line but also in 2005-2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. There are hundreds of complaints on the internet (jeepforum.com, usenet news, etc.) about Jeep vehicles stalling, besides the Commander. I fear that even if Chrysler is finally forced to address the problem under this investigation, they will simply point to the "2006-7 Commanders" portion of the settlement and completely ignore the exact same problem in other years and other models of Jeep. They cannot be allowed to continue waving off their customers, who paid for their products in good faith, and now are not being supported. They need to be forced to acknowledge and rectify this very wide spread problem immediately, before their negligence gets someone killed. Unfortunately, we lowly consumers have little to no power over a giant like Chrysler. That is why we need organizations like the NHTSA to help us. NHTSA, please review your other complaints under the Jeep brand and expand your investigation as appropriate. Anyone else with a Jeep that keeps stalling, please continue to post your complaints here and anywhere else you can find. These stalling problems need to be fixed, and Chrysler needs to take ownership of this dangerous issue immediately.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving 15 mph or greater, the vehicle stalled without warning, which resulted in a total loss of power. The contact stated that the vehicle would restart on its own within a few seconds. The dealer stated that the sensors failed (sensor type unknown). The contact was uncertain if the sensors were replaced. Approximately two weeks later, the failure recurred. The dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. As of November 8, 2007, the dealer had not completed the inspection. There is a defect investigation open (NHTSA action number EA07007) for the engine and engine cooling. The failure mileage was 35,000 and current mileage was 38,000.
