problem #2

Jul 222018

Commander 4.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 145,000 miles

The glass separated from the frame in the moonroof while I was driving down the highway in July 2018, basically creating a gaping hole in the roof. I went to the dealership to have it fixed as it seemed fairly part specific and it took almost two months just to get the parts in. (I was told Jeep had started working with a new manufacturer for that part and they were behind in getting it out.).

After the new glass and frame were installed the seal only lasted a few weeks before it started leaking again. Back to the dealership for a new gasket around the new glass. Then in January of 2019 the glass separated from the frame again. Third trip to the dealership and they installed a (second) new moonroof with a (second) new gasket. Even with the new parts the moonroof would still leak from time to time.

This has been a huge pain...there is mold and mildew in my jeep commander! It leaks every time it rains!! I would have never bought this vehicle had I known it did this. This is my only real complaint with this car, but it's a huge one!! I will never be able to re-sell this vehicle because of this problem! I am stuck with this waterlogged, moldy mildew filled piece of crap. We can't leave things in the floor board, because it will get ruined. The radio screen has been replaced 2 times, and now I just don't deal with it because the water has ruined it again! Huge waste of my money and a hazard to my wife who drives it with my 3 year old son, and 1 year old daughter!!!!
