The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the theft mode warning light illuminated and the vehicle failed to start. In addition, the engine RPM's and the speedometer gauges were fluctuating when driving. The failure recurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 105,000.

The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the ignition switch was replaced but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who replaced the ignition cylinder and recoded the cylinder. The contact stated that three months later, the engine rpms increased and the engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the ignition switch was replaced and code was cleared but the failure persisted. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated again and the vehicle jerked abnormally. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the software was updated and a new computer was installed but failed to remedy the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. While driving 15 mph, the vehicle would shut off if the key was touched or struck. The vehicle would only restart by coming to a stop and shutting it off. The dealer replaced the ignition switch, however, the failure continued. The failure mileage was 5,600 and current mileage was 5,756.
