Three years ago, I was hauling a trailer and I was going up a hill and I felt a slight pause -- I thought the transmission had slipped very slightly. As time went on, my Jeep started to stall while stopped at traffic lights -- especially when it was hot out, but it ran great at night when it was cool. The tire warning light would go on and then turn off; the engine warning light would come on and then turn off. Then just over the last two weeks the car started stalling more often, again when the engine was hot, and the engine warning light would start blinking, which means something really bad is happening. Over the last month I changed all of the sensors and nothing worked. Two of my friends finally told me to check the catalytic converters. I had both of them replaced today and my Jeep now runs great!

AS WITH MANY MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE COMMANDER CUTTING OUT POWER WHILE DRIVING - MINE DOES THE SAME THING AND IS IN THE REPAIR SHOP RIGHT NOW. NOT SURE I WILL EVER TRUST THIS VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY AGAIN. IT SEEMS THAT CHRYSLER IS DEAF TO THIS CONSIDERABLE SAFETY ISSUE - I'M SURPRISED THAT NO ONE HAS BEEN KILLED AFTER READING MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM WITH VEHICLES ON THE HIGHWAY.

I have been ripped since day one with this car. It stalled out two weeks after purchase, took it back to dealership in High Point NC, they kept it til the 30 day warranty ran out, so now I'm stuck with this. I can be driving down the highway at 55mph or 70mph and the truck shuts completely off. I coast to the shoulder, put it in park and it fires right back up. It does this like every 3 or 4 days with no warning at all. I'm afraid to ride my children in it, but I have no choice. The dealer did put it on the machine and said it isn't showing a code, but I know what it's doing. I will be suing the crap out of them and Jeep if I have an accident (and live). Are there any suggestions to what this problem is?

While driving 45 mph call stalls-no brake, power steering or gas available but lights still working. On crowded 6 lane road-able to drive through grass median to get to frontage road-pulled emergency brake up and stopped car. Extremely lucky I did not hurt myself or anyone else or flip the jeep. Towed to Jeep dealership in Crystal Lake, IL-transmission broke apart and shot through engine. Diagnosis-engine sized and needs to be replaced. Not replacing the engine and will not be purchasing another jeep. Will donate car to auto school once weather improves.

This electrical/programming issue was a serious problem because the car would just die at highway speed forcing us to move to the shoulder while coasting and dodging other cars moving at high speed.

Our local dealer had the vehicle off and on for about 3 months. They would think they solved the problem only for us to have it recur. I believe that they finally got it repaired but we sold the vehicle shortly thereafter.

Looks like others have been having this problem. It first started when I would start up my car put it in drive and it would make this really awful noise, like gears shredding and it would stall out. No Gas, no steering for a minute then it would go away. So this only happened a few times but then it got more frequent until every time I startup my car and try to drive forwards it does this.

Then one day I am at a stop light at the busiest intersection in LA and my car goes forward into the intersection, makes the terrible noise and just stops all together. I almost got in a huge accident. I am terrified to drive it. I took it to the dealership to see if the recalls were the problem and they said they fixed it but the second I tried to drive off the lot it did it again so I just backed right back in. I am waiting to hear back on what they feel the issue is. I feel like this is super dangerous and I don't want to get into an accident.

Update from Jan 19, 2016: When the issue happens the ABS/ BAS and the swervy looking car lights come on as well as it says "service 4WD system"

Update from Jan 27, 2016: So it turns out my rear wheel speed sensor was broken. The part was pretty cheap but the labor was $300 and I got my car back in a day however now my tire pressure sensor doesn't work and my remote key has lost a ton of range.

2007 Jeep Commander purchased Sept 2015 with 90,700 miles. Engine tried to quit, no acceleration, power steering quit. All similar to various complaints already discussed. I researched problem and decided to buy a rebuilt ECM/PCM from www.automodulesource.com for $200. Local garage installed the ECM/PCM and also put in new THROTTLE POSITION SENOR ($65) and new AIR CONTROL VALVE ($65). Date is now mid Oct 2007 and vehicle runs excellent. As far as I'm concerned the problem has been resolved (knock on wood). Good Luck with yours.

I've tried 2 different Jeep dealers to have the recall work done. Both told me the part was on back order and would call. I've received 2 or 3 recall notices on the work but the dealers have never had the part nor called if they received any. One of the times I made the appointment and after the vehicle was in they told me they didn't have the part.

I was told make sure that I don't keep a lot of keys on the key chain. I was on the highway driving 65 mph with 5 boys in the car when the whole car just went off. I was able to get it to the side of the road and restart the vehicle. A week later a new recall notice came for it. I hate the idea of making an appointment with a dealer 50 miles away.

I just bought this beautiful 2007 Jeep Commander 5.7 Hemi on July 11, 2015 I have almost gotten killed slammed into because it dies while running at stop lights whenever it wants, then it jerks. It's so awful. I have taken it to Jeep & they said it was crank shaft sensor...nope didn't help my problem. taking it back to Jeep this week to try again.Im afraid to drive it so I leave it parked in my driveway and take my old car everywhere. They have a recall on ignition switch but its not here yet don't know if that will fix it. so many people have this problem, does Jeep want someone to DIE before they fix our problems? its a shame that no one knows what it is........

While leaving driveway, car shuts down every time at least 3-5 times. When driving either slows down from 60mph to 40 or shuts down even on highway. When car slows down makes terrible shaking. We had 3 times in 2 weeks in mechanic. He put on device recording and there were no errors. We had on maintenance and everything was fine. Mechanic hanged spark plugs. Next week the car is going back again. In 2 weeks we spent almost $700 on this car. Last year we had roof leak.

I bought this Jeep 6 days ago. On the 2nd day I drove it, I was almost killed. This is no joke. Driving on a 4 lane highway at rush hour and the Jeep shuts off? Dead as a door nail.

I was nearly killed by an 18 wheeler on my side and rear ended by another. I am furious!!!!!! All my money is gone, I can't drive this car. I have no car anymore. There is no part made yet, says Chrysler. They say drive it until it happens again, are you kidding me? I am out $14,000 dollars, I have no car, I am disabled and not one person cares if this car kills me. I am looking for a lawyer today.

I am terrified of this car. It has a mind of its own and the jeep dealer and shop could care less that this problem can't be fixed. There is an open recall yet no part. How many deaths will you have on your heads , before you get these cars off the road? Well Jeep you are warned, you will be sued by me and mine, for a lot of money. Brakes bucking, stalling all the time and on the highway?? I work in 4 states and can do my job, why? I have no car, and a car that shuts off on the highway. Would you drive this Jeep? I don't think so. Recalls with no parts available, really? How do I unload this vehicle?

My car, a 2007 Jeep Commander has been inspected twice. Once by Jim Burke who didn't say where he was from and again in May of 2015 by Bill Vaughn a Chrysler Inspector. I was sent two letters by Chrysler once in March 2015 and again in June of 2015. The second letter said to contact the Insurance company about the problem. This is a Chrysler Recall (P41) which we received in September of 2014. I've had the car shutdown on me six times and after June of 2015 I've not used it except to get it smogged for registration and normal maintenance. The two times I can recall the car stopping on me once was March 26 on Colima Blvd in Rowland Heights and again on the day I had it inspected in March of 2015 (March 31st.)

They (Chrysler FCA) said that the part for this will be available in September of 2015. This is the 28th of September and I have received no notice from Chrysler, FCA or anyone. I only have 72,0000 miles on the car. I'd like to use it but am too afraid. I'd get the insurance to fix it BUT it is recalled by FCA Chrysler of America and they should fix the problem. Therefore I do not think I should pay for it and let FCA fix the problem if they have any desire to actually fix it.

When accelerating, vehicle cuts out quite often or when driving at constant speed, does not matter what speed. Has also stalled while driving as well. Vehicle stalls while sitting at stops or in the driveway also. Idles erratically while sitting still while in Park or while in Drive with foot on brake. This issue is significantly noticeable when AC is running, but does same then when A/C is not running as well, just not to the same extent.

Took the vehicle to a mechanic and was told that the heads were clogged and to fix the issue it would cost approx $1800+ and several days to fix. Mechanic suggested putting fuel system cleaner in to see if it would clear up the problem which ended up costing $200. Ran several full tanks of fuel through since and it has not resolved the issue. This issue has been ongoing for a couple years now. I've taken the vehicle in on several occasions for this same issue with no resolution. Was told at one point by dealer, that this issue was not related to the recall for my VIN although I've read several blogs that involve the same type of problem for this same year/model. Issue seems to be across the board, not just VIN specific. Also noticed that the issue does not occur as often during winter months for whatever reason.

In addition to my first complaint about the car just failing as I was driving at 40 mph with very small children in the car, (the gas wouldn't work, the brakes wouldn't work and the lights on the dash started flashing, I had to avoid a crash as I had no control of the car and tried to pull off to a side street, yeah and I turned the car off, waited a minute turned it on and what do you know it started up just fine).

I would also like to mention my other experience of the car breaking down in the middle of a 6 lane highway. This highway is more of a big city road. There are many stop lights, lots of traffic and the speed limit is 40, obviously people drive faster than that though. This particular occasion it was raining terribly and I stopped at a red light. Right before the light turned green, my cars dash started flashing on a off it made a really weird sound and that was it. It died. I had to have my husband come to help me get my small kids out of the car, many people almost hit my car as it was raining and I was stuck right in the middle of the road and I had it towed.

The dealership said it was the battery. After 300 bucks the car still did the same thing multiple times afterwards. All at random times, in my driveway or at a parking lot. I would go to start the car and the same thing happened. I had it towed after this from a parking lot because usually it shakes and shutters really badly so I turn it off and turn it back on and it is fine. This time, I kept trying for 40 minutes and nothing. The dealership got it and guess what! It started right up for them!!!!!!!

This dealership is Markley Motors in Fort Collins CO. I have to take it there because I purchased this ridiculous after market warranty with my Jeep that doesn't even cover the broken seat belt mechanisms in the back! YES they told me the warranty covered everything. (It did cover the back door locks not working so in the winter when it got cold I would have to climb through my trunk to get my little ones out of the car seat, I literally had to demand that the dealership kept the car and tested it when it was cold, because they just could never "identify the problem".) They always have to send it to get plugged in to test at the Jeep Dealership, I guess it was Fort Collins Jeep.

I am so sick of this my stupid after market warranty that was useless runs out in a month and then what I am supposed to do? What am I supposed to do if this keeps happening, which is has showed no signs of letting up. The last time it shook and shuttered, dash lights flashed and it wouldn't start was a couple weeks ago, and the last time the gas, brakes steering and dash lights flashed while I was driving at 30/40 mph was a couple years ago (That was really dangerous!!! and never fixed even though I took it in).

I intend to file a complaint for both of these issues with the National Highway Safety. You are screwed JEEP, there are too many of us who bought your car that will eventually kill our families or someone else! I suggest you fix this problem or we will band together and file a lawsuit.

While making a right turn onto oncoming traffic, I tried to accelerate as traffic was coming behind me but noticed that the steering wheel locked up and I could not accelerate nor could I brake. I had my young son in the back seat so I started to panic and traffic was catching up to us and my speed was quickly dropping with no way to brake. I had to physically force the steering wheel to the right to turn into a parking lot. After struggling to force a steering wheel that would not cooperate into the lot, I had to shut down the engine by turning off the ignition. It was only then I noticed that the entire control was lit up (Park, Neutral, Drive, Reverse...). After I turned off the engine, I tried the ignition again and the car was fine.

It happened again TWICE in freeway traffic and almost got hit by a 18-wheel big rig truck because the car did the same thing. My children are no longer allowed to ride in this vehicle for obvious safety reasons. I have contacted Chrysler and they have only suggested that I carry no other keys on the key chain and to try not hit the keys with my knees. This is supposed to take care of the obvious mechanical malfunction going on with the car?? My husband and I are trying to get rid of this piece of crap but our conscience tells us we can't until this problem is fixed by the car maker!

Vehicle is a new purchase. Checked out prior to buying. No codes, etc. At just about 100 miles after buying while driving 55 mph on my way home from a meeting, there was a loud clunk from the engine compartment. The engine quit and all dash lights came on as in the start engine mode. Coasted to side of road. Turned key off and back on. Vehicle started immediately. Drove home.

I Googled 2007 Jeep Commander 5.7l engine this morning. There are hundreds of complaints about this. It appears that Chrysler has done nothing to address the problem. Many people have had this problem since the vehicle was new. Although Chrysler did re-flash a power module on the 4.7l engine they did not do it for the 5.7. Interestingly the same problem seems to exist across the Chrysler product line on the 2006 - 2007 5.7l engine. My internet review indicates that dealers have done all kinds of replacements...at the owner's expense one out of warranty...and in most cases the problem has not been fixed. There is also a notice from late 2007 or early 2008 where NHTSC indicates Chrysler has acknowledged the issue and assigned engineers to study it. NHSTC then closed the issue. From best I can tell that was the end of it. Does anyone know if the engineers figured it out and there was a fix?

While the engine did start up again immediately the obvious problem is traveling at highway speeds and having the vehicle simply quit running. I was fortunate in that I was on rural highways at night. If this happened in heavy traffic it could cause loss of life. I have also filed a complaint with the NHTSC.

I honestly just cry every time my truck shuts down while I am driving. I am a single mother of two boys and therefore honest to God DO NOT have the funds to spend $1300.00 to fix this problem. A few days ago I was going 55mph on the highway and thank God I was in low traffic. It JUST DIED!!! No warning signs, no nothing!! Just dies. ALMOST crashed into a car on the right lane, got cursed out, but just let it slide until it came to a stop. My kids were freaking out. Until the day that this truck crashes and I die, they will not do anything.

2006 and 2008 models recalled for this problem, but 2007 won't be. I was sold such a lemon!!

IT IS NOW 4/2014 91,000 MILES, NO ONE KNOWS WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. REPORTED TO THE VEHICLE SAFETY AND CALLED CHRYSLER BUT NO ONE SEEMS TO REALLY GIVE A CRAP. STALLS ROUGHLY 1-2 TIMES A MONTH. I thought that leasing a new vehicle was a great idea! I was super excited to have purchased my very first car, only to have been driving in the worst traffic known to man and get ready to take off and my car dies! Having a mechanic for a father I knew that putting the car in neutral and trying to start her up again would be my best bet...but the Commander thought otherwise. The dashboard will light but there is no connection to the engine. It takes about 3-4 tries before the car will start again. I was almost smashed by a Semi truck speeding down the same road and I have no idea what to do next. This car has been in for service and it still shuts off. How can I get rid of this car and on to something that won't try to kill me or my family?
