Commander Sport 3.7L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 85,000 miles

Since last summer, 2017, my Commander has had issues while accelerating, downshifting, and flat out driving. Some days while coming home I can't even get up to 20MPH. Other days I can get up to 35 MPH and the car will just stop, it takes everything the Jeep has to get to the side of the road. Good news, I can always put the car in park, shut if off and turn it back and the issue will not happen again until the next time I start a drive. So far it has only happened around town (low speeds), thankfully not on the freeway. Last summer it was under warranty and nobody would touch the issue.. Note, this issue only happens in hot weather. I drove my Jeep all winter without a single problem.

Carson Dodge Jeep ran some diagnostics and got back the codes P2784 input speed sensor on transmission and P0717 input sensor on the transmission. Writing on the service report, "CHECKED VEHICLE, WENT THROUGH ALL THE GEARS, DROVE 60-65 MPH, DID NOT HAVE ANY ACCELERATION PROBLEM AT THIS TIME, CHECKED CODES, FOUND P2784 INPUT SPEED SENSOR ON TRANS, P0717 ALSO INPUT SENSOR ON TRANS. WHAT HAPPENS IS DEBRIS FROM TRANS GET ON SENSOR, WHICH IS MAGNETIC, NEEDS NEW INPUT SENSOR AND SERVICE TRANS REMOVE VALVE BODY INSTALL MAGNETIC PICKUP PLATE ON VALVE BODY".

The total fix is $1047, I opted out and picked it up. I feel like this fix can't be guaranteed from happening again in the future. Is it worth it? I don't know. I will probably end up trading it in for something that is AWD or 4WD.

Commander Sport V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 88,000 miles

Our Jeep 09 Commander is basically not drivable as it's so dangerous when it shuts off/stalls.

ONE example (and I mean one because it's happened many times) of this was when I was driving with my children, as I began to merge with high speed traffic entering the highway our engine shut off and coasted at a speed of about 35 miles per hour, keep in mind traffic was flying by at 70 - 75 miles per hour; I could not accelerate AT ALL. I had to try and safely pull over to the emergency lane, turn the car off, and then turn it back on. I ended up going back home because the car would not stop stalling.

This is so dangerous, and I have taken it in to the mechanic multiple times and they cannot determine exactly what is causing it.

I TOOK MY 2009 JEEP COMMANDER TO THE DEALER AND THEY JUST CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS AND COULD NOT DETECT THE PROBLEM EVEN AFTER THEY DROVE IT AND USED COMPUTER DIAGNOSE TEST. THE JEEP KEEPS STALLING, I AM AFRAID TO GET IN AN ACCIDENT HITTING OTHER VEHICLES OR GETTING HIT BY OTHER CARS DRIVING BEHIND ME AT HIGH SPEEDS AND ME HAVING TO PULL OVER AT DANGEROUS PLACES. I HOPE THEY CAN FIND THE PROBLEM ON THE NEXT VISIT TO THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT.
