I am a disabled about to be 70 yrs old senior barely getting by on an income of $680 per month from social security and I bought this jeep 2 yrs ago and I am still paying $215 a month and have only paid off half of the loan to purchase this Jeep. I now have no transportation to any doctor appts, pharmacy pick ups, or food shopping until I can get this fixed. They want $2000.00 to fix the TIPM and there is NO way around not fixing it as I cannot sell a car that is not in working condition nor would I be able to afford the loan which I am still paying each month.

I really need help as I am in the process of begging for help to come up with the money to pay for this to be fixed and honestly this should have NEVER happened on a jeep that I have barely had for 2 years. From what I understand now this seems to be a common issue on the Jeep Compass and they should NOT BE allowed to sell this Jeep knowing the issues that it has and the severe cost of repair. This is horrific and no normal human can afford to pay this amount of repair without it costing them not being able to afford any food or pay any other bills just to get it fixed. My income does not cover things of this magnitude and the debt it is putting me into is beyond words.

This issue needs to be something mandatory for Jeep to put as a recall and they need to fix it without the cost coming out of our pockets and putting us into the poor house. Which is where I will be for the next year just trying to pay back the cost of the repair. It has me in tears that I do not have a dependable Jeep which is what I had thought when I purchased it. Shameful of Jeep to not care about its customers and not make it a recall. Just shameful that I have to go thru this on a Jeep that I have not even had for 2 years.

My compass is a 2011 and that is not old enough nor does it have the high miles to have had such a severe issue as this, leaving me stranded by the side of the road. If I was not such a smart driver, it could have caused a severe accident to happen as there was no warning just a slight sputter which felt like it had skipped running. That warning was not enough for me to get to the right side of the road and exit a 3 lane 65 mph highway which I was traveling on. Had I not reacted immediately being a mechanically inclined individual ... I would have caused a severe accident as when the TIMP goes you lose everything.

You have NO power, no brakes, no steering, no nothing but your wits to get you safely to the side of the road. Jeep is lucky I was not killed when this happened as I was on a highly traveled road with heavy traffic and I thank God that I was not hurt and was able to react as swiftly to preserve my own safety. No excuses, Jeep - NONE - for you not caring enough about your customers on an issue you are well aware of.

Update from Jul 15, 2021: I have now replaced the TIPM twice and had to replace FOUR more sensors to no avail. Jeep is now in shop waiting on another expensive part which controls the entire system. This jeep has been the worst with electrical issues. I cant keep on pouring more money into this lemon. Jeep should be ashamed of themselves. I purchased this in 2018 and now its in the shop more than I can drive it.

Having major TIPM issues in 2011 Jeep Compass.. and apparently not alone. Jeep has loss power several times while driving nearly rear-ended twice. I fear for my life and my wife's life. There has been a recall on other Jeep's but not Compass. Why? Waiting for deaths to occur. Chrysler needs to do their job and recall this vehicles TIPM module. Please help get the word out. This is a costly fix no one should have to bear, especially since the problem is not fault of owner's.

My Jeep Compass has had a variety of annoying issues. They were never dangerous until the TIPM unit began to fail. I commute a long way, and no confidence in a vehicle is terrifying. The first issue occurred when I received a transmission fluid temp warning light, which threw the vehicle into some sort of safety mode which basically felt like I shifted into neutral. I also got the traction control warning. Going slow, I was able to get home, and to the mechanic.

Diagnostics showed communication errors with the TIPM module, which we had replaced. The Jeep ran fine, but I noticed the traction control light coming on again, but with no change in vehicle performance. I went back to mechanic and again the computer showed communication error. Since it did not affect performance, I continued to drive. A few days later, same issue, but now with check engine light, and no power (on my way to work.)

After vehicle sat for a few, I was able to get it to my mechanic again. Same communication error. After surfing various forums and hearing everyone else's sad Compass stories, we changed out the transmission fluid and had the transmission checked. ( It has always checked out fine throughout this ordeal.) I picked up today because my reliable old Civic needs a new alternator, and how cool is it to always have a car in the shop. Pfffft!! I have only driven around close to home, but seems ok. However, it always seems ok for a bit before it malfunctions.

Jeep should be ashamed. A recall was issued to Durangos and Grand Cherokees for the same issue, but other models were ignored. Losing power on the highway is unsafe. If I survive driving this thing until I am able to purchase a new car, I can promise it will not be a Chrysler product.

An expensive fix for something that seemed so minor. Also from what I have read, it seems like its a faulty part and should be recalled.

On August 20, I was going to work (I am a RN in a large Emergency Dept in Cleveland, OH) and my windshield wipers stopped working after a couple miles driving in a downpour. Have you ever driven without windshield wipers? It is NOT recommended. I feared for my safety and the safety of the other vehicles on the highway from the point the windshield wipers "froze" vertically in my field of vision until I could pull over to safety. From that day on, my windshield wipers are inconsistent and work about every other time I start my car. Sometimes they work when I start my car, but quit during my commute. I work very strange hours and I have been very afraid to drive my car because I honestly don't know if my windshield wipers will work or not.

I made an appointment with a Jeep Dealership down the street from where I lived because I was afraid to drive my car approx. 50 miles to the dealership I purchased the vehicle from. Apparently, the dealership I made the appointment with did not understand my issue and scheduled me a day their "electrician" does not work. Without looking at a calendar, they told me the earliest they could get me in was a month later on Sept 22. That was unacceptable to me. I left and scheduled an appointment with the dealership I purchased my Jeep knowing if it rained on the appointment day, I would be risking my safety and the safety of others if my windshield wipers failed. I was afraid to drive numerous times while waiting for the scheduled appointment. The weather in Cleveland, OH isn't always the greatest. I ended up calling off work on two occasions due to the terrible weather conditions and my vehicle not operating safely. It seems like every time I got into my car and it rained, my windshield wipers did not work.

Today was the day of my appointment and after 2.5 hours and $100+ in diagnostic fees, the dealership said I have a faulty TIPM which was causing the wipers to work intermittently and it would be approximately $700 to fix (parts, diagnostic, and labor fees). They did not have the part in stock (even though I had to pay for it today for it to be shipped which was strange and annoying to me). Due to my work schedule, I am not be able to get my vehicle fixed until Sept 9, 2014.

After the appointment, I went home and Google searched the TIPM. To my disgust, this is a KNOWN issue on various Dodge and Jeep models and it has affected thousands of customers like myself. I am shocked it has not been recalled. Not only am I afraid to drive my vehicle in the rain, I am now afraid to drive my vehicle period after reading all of the other complaints. I am a very hardworking individual who has spent a lot of money purchasing this vehicle and maintaining it. I need a safe vehicle for my commute to/from work and it disgusts me that thousands of others have had the same faulty part. In fact, the part was on back order for quite some time because of the amount of vehicle owners needing to replace their faulty TIPM as well.

This is unacceptable to me. If I make a known error at work, I make it right. I apologize to the person that was affected and I do my best to make it right. I have people's lives in my hands and I take every precaution to prevent errors on my job. Chrysler of America knows my life (and the lives of thousands others) is at danger and they are choosing to ignore the issue. I always buy American vehicles, but this was my first Chrysler/Jeep purchase and I regret it. I have vowed never to purchase another Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge product.
