I left my house and drove approximately 6 miles to the freeway entrance of I-77 North. I, along with several other cars in front of me and behind me entered the on-ramp, which was circular. All of a sudden out of the clear blue sky, my 2018 Jeep Compass skidded as if I were on a patch of ice and was heading towards the guardrail. I went into immediate panic and tried to get the car under control, at which time I found that the steering wheel had LOCKED! It took every muscle in my body to get the car under control and not run off the road. I had to travel several thousand feet, fighting the wheel every step of the way, to get me and the car to a safe point in the berm of the freeway with heavy Holiday traffic. I was terrified because everything happened out of the clear blue sky and it scared me to death.

Once I got the car under control and in the berm, I attempted to turn the wheel and it wasn't moving. The crazy thing is that the car was still running, which was weird since the steering wheel was locked. I hit the gas to make sure that it had not cut off (I've had 2 instances of abrupt engine shut off already). I didn't know what to do. I noticed that the Electronic Stability Control Warning Light and the Electronic Power Steering Wheel Fault Warning Light were both illuminated on the dash board. It was a Sunday evening, so I couldn't call the dealer for advice. Again, I didn't know what to do.

After sitting for a minute, I decided to turn the car off, and turn it back on. When I did that, it cleared the issue and I was able to turn the wheel. I have had issues since I purchased the car, brand new, and it has been back in the shop several times in a year. The last time that it was in the shop, they replaced the engine due to the oil issue that many have spoken about. And now this happens. I was so shaken by this last episode that I do not want to drive the car because I have a major concern for my safety. I do not want to be driving and all of a sudden the darn car goes into a skid and slams into somebody's car or worse, goes over the 200' bridge that I drive over EVERY DAY, killing me and anybody with me.

Jeep better get a handle and recall these cars because the lawsuits are just waiting to happen.
