Please note: My brother in law originally purchased the Jeep from said dealer. I in turn purchased the Jeep from him in June 2001. December 8, 2002 I had gone to the grocery store in my hometown of pearland, Texas. After shopping I went to put the groceries in the back of the Jeep. I lifted the liftgate or hatcback whichever they refer to it. I then started unloading the groceries. As I leaned into the vehicle to put groceries in, I was standing up and coming back out to retrieve more groceries. At that time without any warning the liftgate just gave way and it was not a slow descend, it was as if the hydraulics had gone out completely. Therefore the lifgate hit me on the crown of my head. I was a little dazed, and I put my hand on top of my head to feel for big knot and when I came down with my hand it was covered in blood. A lady finished loading my groceries, and locked my vehicle. I was taken inside the store any our city ems was called to the scene. They checked me out and gave me the option of going to the hospital or my local physician, which I choose my doctor over sitting in a waiting room for hours. Upon seeing my doctor I was required 3 stitches to my head due to the injury. So now I will not even open the lifgate for fear I will be hurt again. I do not have the money to spend on the dealership and I feel this is a defectin the hydraulics. There are no warnings signs indicating something like this could happen, and there is nothing in the manual that tells you hyraulics need to be chacked after so many miles, etc. I would like Jeep to pay to have my vehicle feixed and also I would like to be reimbursed fro doctors visit by them. I think this is only fair. As well as letting others know there could be a problem with their vehicles as well. This could have been a lot more serious problem with an elderly or small child. I can say it scared me bad. And I am very lucky I was not hurt worse. Any information I can get from you would be very much appreciated.
